Heroes of the Storm

So I've played this game some more now. One game I was using Tyrande but someone was having at go at me for what reason I coulnd't figure out. Maybe because they died during a teamfight... I was doing my best to heal/protect those who needed it.

Oh well, that's been and gone. Games after that have been much more pleasant. I really like how simple this game is, or how it doesn't take half the time of a LoL game to actually finish.

I've plunged more money into this game now and I feel I should be good up until release. I purchased the Nexus bundle at 32.99 and then bought the Dire wolf mount (this in white is what I really want!). Haven't used anybody else yet but looking forward to Nova

As I explained to my mate though, sure these characters can be farmed for free, but atleast I'm supporting the game and providing them with more money to make the game better. And without these mirotransactions, we probably wouldn't have a game to play.

Agreed.

I have spent about £55 so far:

Nexus Bundle
Starter Bundle
Reghar
Dire Wolf
Cyber Wolf
7 Day Stimpack
30 Day Stimpack

Then with gold i have bought:

Zeratul
Tychus
Stitches
Sgt Hammer

I've set £60 as my max which may well be another stimpack or something in the sale, everything else i'll earn with gold.

May get Sylvanna when released with gold.

The amount i'll play it won't be wasted money.

Only becuase people are stupid enough to pay for things they would get through the course of the game anyway (most of the time) - Just dont understand the micro transaction mindset :)

Well i guess i'm stupid enough then, end of the day £60 is nothing and if it gives me a wide range of heroes for a game i'll pump many hours into it then so be it.

If nobody bought anything what do you think will happen to these games? Carry them on as if it were a charity?

If you enjoy a game and play it a lot, isn't it a good thing to put a little money in and make sure that game carries on?

You do realise that Blizzard/Activision are making and releasing this right? They have more money in the bank than most countries :p

And I still continue to give them money for WoW :p

I've got the Founder's Pack and now the Nexus bundle. Then addition of the mount, total is at £65.68 so far. I've been tempted to purchase the Starter Bundle too but I'm thinking they would probably be more worth coins rather than money.

I do see your point of view and I agree. Yes they are a big money grab but without them, we simply wouldn't have a game. I don't consider myself "stupid" for making these purchases though. I'm simply supporting the developers who have created a game which I enjoy playing. It doesn't matter if they release F2P or not, I would have purchased the game regardless, even if it cost money.

I dont play mobas so I wouldnt shed a tear if they died out :p Regardless, a company like blizzvision could quite easily just charge a flat box fee for the game and the sales would generate enough cash for them to develop/host etc etc until the end of time.

I know full well they are into the microtransaction line for heroes as they will garner more money out of the people they will play it then a straight up box fee.

If it was a small development house or publisher then I could understand your point, but with who they are its a whole other ball game, and they are just their to milk folks of money. Blizzard stopped caring about its playerbase a longtime ago.

Anyway, this isnt the thread to discuss the merits of microtransactions :)

I wouldn't shed a tear if any game died down, got better things in life to worry about than computer games.

Of course they could charge a box fee and make enough money to keep it going and of course they are using micro transactions to make more money.

That said you can play the game without ever spending a penny if you really wanted to. For those who have spare income and want a few extra heroes they have the ability to spend real money. I'm pretty sure non of them feel like they have been milked.

Does that make them stupid like you say?

Your right it isn't a thread to discuss micro transactions but small minded posts about peoples intelligence because they choose to do something with their money you don't agree with is a bit sad.

Moving on...

Because of who they are? Since when should a large company stop receiving money for something they have created? The same crowd who play games like LoL will be on this. Most of the people will not make any money transactions. It isn't forced upon you to access and play the game and like you said, you can unlock these characters with time.

In a way these games work out for everybody. You give access to those who would be unable to purchase the game so they play the game for free. Then you have those who haven't got an issue with giving them money and those who could give money, but choose not to.

I agree, my original post was about HoTS, not microtransactions. Well sort of :D

I work, I also might have to do a lot of on-call duty so I don't have the 'luxury' of playing 100's of hours to unlock a character I might want to play.

If I can pay £2.49 to have them instantly I'm not going to worry about the money, it's a quality of life thing. It shouldn't upset anyone that there is that option.

How do you get a key to play this, is it buy in

As above.

Either pay £30 from Blizzard for a beta key that comes with a few heroes, a mount and a bit of gold. (Not the best value for money)

Take your chance and buy a key for a few £ on ebay/key seller sites.

Apply for any beta giveaways that crop up from time to time on gaming websites like pcgamer/eurogamer etc...

Add it to your beta list on the official Blizzard site under account.

There is a new system coming soon when X amount of current players will receive 4 beta keys to give to friends. Hope someone gets one and will share it with you.

Eugh, had this horrible issue last night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJvtU6zHo1c

Not my video but exactly what I was experiencing. It's not FPS lag but horrible latency stuttering. I have 50meg so not sure what was going on. I pinged the HoTS EU Servers and ye was getting lots of timeouts and high pings.

Seems to be a lot with this issue but no real fix. Any ideas?

What is there to understand? It is a latency issue, potentially not your side but may be blizzard. It is also closed beta so ya know they could be...testing.

Blizzard are also the frequent recipient of DDOS attacks and they host everything internally and use no external vendors
