Heroes of the Storm

I'm a non-MOBA player and I'm giving HOTS a try and enjoying it so far. It feels like it could do with a few balance tweaks but games that have been out for years still have balance issues so that doesn't worry me really, especially considering that this is still in alpha.

One concern I do have is that they appear to be focusing hard on the monetisation aspect at the moment, and I hope that it isn't at the expense of other aspects of the game. It could just turn into another actiblizzard moneygrabbing exercise.

I had a chance to put a few hours into this over the weekend.

It really is a good game.

However, playing it has reinforced my belief that this genre really isnt for me. Games are fun and exciting, but require a lot of concentration. I may be getting old (36), but getting home after work/gym, or even on the weekend I am looking for something more relaxing.

I will keep it installed and probably play again when I feel like I have the energy for it, but until then I think most of my playtime will be sticking with Civ V and Hearthstone.

Still didn't get in, blizzard hates me!

Some friends have said its good and then I've seen other people posting that its just mediocre.

Will have to wait on my invite before making my own mind up :(

Just got the Alpha tonight so looking forward to giving this a shot.. when the download website becomes available :l

Man I hope their servers are better than the WoW ones have been of late.

I've been enjoying it casually for a couple of weeks now and while it is fun, it's a bit lacking in depth. It's not got the brick wall learning curve of dota2 or the diversity of lol, the lack of items makes the game considerably less diverse, and because you can't see the map ahead of time you can be picking a hero that's really out of place / team with zero synergy. The gold model / currency feels much worse than lol though and the talent gating is really moronic - why do I have to play games where I am excluded from must have talents?

On the other hand it's fun to have different objectives and the mechanics are easy to pick up, characters are well animated and the like. Most characters have a good set of tools and nearly everyone has a gap closer / escape etc... (much like lol in this regard) which combines to put a high requirement on team play.

To get used to using different talent builds and trying different things I would guess.

I received my invite near Christmas and have been playing vigorously ever after :P

The only thing I dont like are the cancers of all games: "Grips" (Stiches, pulls your hero to location X and essentially makes you a free kill), and "Stealth".. with stealthers you can only ever fight at full HP, or not at all as you will always die in one shot.

Edit: sorry, thread necro kind of I guess...

got Alpha access really enjoyed it so far but definitely needs to played in comms very tedious with no comms when people don't know the game yet.

talent trees are a bit odd. Wish you could see/pick the map. so annoying playing on the dragon map with 0 comms :o

Anyone been playing this?

I'm absolutely loving it. finding it a great mix between dota and lol. I'm around level 40 if anyone wants to add me and team up! :)

The game went to closed beta today, used to be a technical alpha.

No real difference except for a new map + a new hero, Thrall.. who is ridiculously overpowered at the moment.

I've had access for ages but have never been able to get it working. Just loads to a black screen with audio in the background. It does sound nice though

So much rage because it became available today on the battle.net launcher.

I appear to have got an invite on 1 of my accounts, no email yet but I can hope...didn't want to have to spend £30...

After a few more games I am enjoying this, I think Blizzard may of just made a moba that fits more around the time I have to play as games seem much shorter than LoL and DOTA.

Not all that convinced on hero prices mind you.

Blizzard's barking at the wrong tree with this one. The MOBA genre is popular among gamers who are willing to put serious time in it, not casuals, and I doubt many gamers will go for a dumbed down MOBA just because it features Blizzard characters.

Sorry what? Look how popular LoL is and thats the casual version of dota. No reason that something even more casual than LoL cant be popular.

THREE HEROES: Raynor, Diablo, and Tyrande
THREE SKINS: Commander Raynor, Lurkablo Diablo, and Blood Elf Tyrande
EPIC MOUNT: Golden Cyber Wolf
A STASH OF GOLD: 2,500 in-game gold to help unlock additional Heroes and other content
ACCESS TO THE NEXUS: Immediate access to Heroes of the Storm, beginning with the closed beta test

These 3 heroes are a hard sell, Raynor is OK but outclassed by Valla and Tychus in the role right now, Diablo is pretty much awful in comparison to other tanks/initiators and Tyrande while not bad, isn't really the first support new people would do well with due to the high reliance on the skillshot. Skins I guess are personal preference, the mount too. 2500 gold is not a big deal, I guess it gets you closer to your first hero purchase (there are a bunch at 2k). If you pre-ordered diablo 3 exp you'll have valla for free for what it's worth.

It's not really a decent deal for the heroes given, you'll probably use the free rotation heroes more than those 3. The current rotation is:
Valla
Stitches
Sonya
Falstad
Malfurion
Level 12: Sgt.Hammer
Level 15: Brightwing

This is a pretty friendly to new people week, sgt hammer being the only real moderately difficult one (new people use siege mode too much and get punished by it but she's lvl 12 unlock slot anyway). At least there's no illidan or nova this week. God I love free nova week, always good for getting those win rates up on tass.
