hi all need help with overclocking

so if i copy those settings into bios which will give me 3.6 thats gonna be ok then?i shall run prime95 for 30mins then if all is well run blend for 8hours am i on the right track?

im sorry if i am sounding dumb here just somethings i cant get my head round and this overclocking is one on them

You have to bear in mind, that if joe bloggs has the EXACTY same setup as you, and he clocks his Q6600 to 4GHz, it wont mean the same will happen for you if you enter the same bios settings.

I know its easy to get impatient when clocking, cos you want to get higher sooner, but you have to take it one step at a time.

In my case my cpu at stock is 2.83GHz, so I started straight from 3GHz and I've gradulally throu trial and error got my CPU to 3.6GHz so far... with, what I can see, still plenty of room to get higher.

So get your ideal settings, run prime for 30 mins, if it dies go back and add a bit to your vcore until prime gets stable. If after putting up your vcore by a few notches it still don't respond, try uping the PLL or NB abit and see if that works. Remembering to always keep an eye on your temps!

So you can try copying those settings, however, if I was you I would start from 3GHz and work up yourself... its fun once you get started :)

ok i understand what yor saying and will start at 3.0ghz i stuck i will post here so anyway i raised the fsb to 333 giving me 3.0ghz everything else is stock/auto.
ran prime small fft,now regarding the temps i recall that they should be below 75c but mine are not two of the cores are 90c:eek: the other two sometimes go to 85c.

what should i do im using artic silver pro 7 fan and artic paste or is this normal under full load here is a pic

no errors or warning in that peroid of 10mins or so.would love to achive the 3.4ghz which i think will do me ,should i rasie the fsb up a bit more or is this gonna risk it

this is the ram at min(corsair dominator pc2-8500 c5 1066mhz) i undrstand this has changed from 1.1 to 4.5

should this be changed or leave it as it is,so can i go to 3.4?not sure about volts ect so any help would be great i must amit i am learning as i go along.

anyway i started over and followed huddysworld overclocking on his website(nice site:D)got to 3.0ghz without any probs running prime now and is doing ok not keen on the temps tho max out at 90c on two and then it drops down to 81ish two the other two cores are stable at 72c,anyway no errors yet and its been going nearly an hour now on test 5 560000(what ever they mean lol)passed everyone so far,so i must be doing something right.

ps max core voltage in cpu-z is 1.4v min 1.392 is that ok?

I would suggest checking that your heatsink is seated properly as your temps seem very high for the clockspeed and voltage. Theres usually also a bit of a difference in the temps between, cores due to the surface of the cpu not being totally flat, or the heatsink base being uneven.

Are you using auto voltage rick for the cpu, as its a bit hard to see in your screen shot, your cpuz reading. i would manually set the voltage in bios to whatever the vid of your cpu is:)

yes thats still on auto so what do i type in and whats the name on it in bios?

would that be the problem then
Best to take it off auto as this will likely give the chip more volts than it really needs, therefore increasing heat. I see in your coretemp screeny that your vid is 1.300, in the ai overclocking section of the bios, in the section entitled voltages, set the cpu voltage to 1.300 to match the vid, save and boot into windows and run prime95 small fft test to check stability.

dropped it off auto and put in 1.30 now my door fan and front fan have stopped, when booting up they start but then stop after about 3secs?? is this due to taking auto off cpu and putting in 1.30??

update still no fans on door or front working after i put auto on

The 3 options on mine are, silent, standard and turbo its a matter of personal choice. i have mine set to turbo, but the fans are then controlled in windows via asus ai suite, so that they only run full speed when the system is doing something intensive.

right all up and running again phewww ok im gonna redo the settings in bios and sort out the cpu volt out to 1.3 and run prime small test and see how i go from there
