I don't see the point of your post though... there are wars, battles, skirmishes or just a misunderstanding going on all around the world all the time. Just because it doesn't happen on our doorstep doesn't mean it doesn't happen. If it does happen at least we'll have a fighting chance to defend ourselves.... just because we don't live in the times of the Spanish armada, doesn't mean that we should put our heads in the sand.

Umm, we do not live in fear of invasions, prescisly because we have Mordern well equipped/well trained armed forces

everyone says we need these ships to defend ourselves so we can sleep at night... but thats preposterous. Please list all the nations that have a capabuility of successfully invading the UK? not too many hey? so why the devil do we need x billion more spending.

Folks, I suggest we give Nana the stage to outline his plans then ........ assuming his argument has merit. Nana, post your solutions to your argument. I am intrigued so much as to how you hope to possibly sway my opinions for one with what is nothing more than words with no merit, credibility or substance whatso ever.

Lets get rid of everything to do with armed forces and then when the poh hits the fan... well what do you think is going to happen!??

These are quality ships and worth the money spent on them, same as when the trident system gets the go ahead to be upgraded in 10 years (not exact but soon). No doubt we will have the same arguement then as well! That is if we haven't been invaded because our navy wasn't there to protect us

if anyone truly believes that these ships add a layer of defence against NBC attacks they are delusional. These ships will be accross the globe defending aircraft carriers.

Until the carriers are built do you think they will sit about in dock doing nothing?

They will be used to do the traditional role of the Royal Navy and support and protect British citizens around the world. So it is very possible the scenario i described might happen as they will not sit in dock waiting for carriers to be finished. The Navy will use them where it has a need.
