Personally I don't care about the UK trying to be a 'major power' on the world stage. I don't believe the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, such as the massive cost which we pay from our taxes. Perhaps if everything in this country was running perfectly and there was a huge surplus of cash then it might be justified, but we are not in that happy position.

They can be used in that role, they can be used to protect aircraft carriers and they can be used to combat drug running. They can be used to do whatever the MOD or the Government deem it neccessary to do.
As for the IS, who are YOU to question them ? What sensitive material are you privvy to which puts you in an ivory tower or do you just stick your mush in the Daily Mail now and again.
If you can do better or make the difference you seem to think then I suggest you get your application in for the Security Service or the Secret Intelligence Service and stand your post !
