Can someone explain the point of even playing the multiplayer?

The graphics look 5+ years old and pretty much every kill is by some lame sniper 2 miles away with an overpowered weapon

I was having this issue, I edited my router config and since then this has not happened at all. Per chance you using a speedtouch and with BE*?

it's just a basic virgin setup, with a dlink router. no non standard settings on it... confused :( disappointed the game doesn't work well for me, or a lot of folk I know!

I am enjoying playing mp but it can get frustrating with spawn killing and the snipers, over ppwered helicopters and the fact that they are hard to shoot down.

Your right about the snipers it does seem that up to half of your team is a sniper. In bc when you move onto the next set of objectives snipers are still at the old objective under a bush sniping. You have no hope in seeing them untill they become a priority target. Hopefully the next patch will fix all the problems. The graphics look good to me but then I upgraded my pc this year and they are maxed out and it runs smooth.

Well so far so good, I actually don't have a DVD/CD drive at the moment due to upgrading to Sandybridge and it not having any IDE ports. So just activating and downloading on Steam has come in quite handy. Coupled with it downloading 5.3MB/sec it will be done in a few min :D

Really enjoying the multiplayer, so much so i have hardly touched the single player.

Snipers everywhere, but there is so much cover you get round the back, watch there tracers and pop em off. Plays like a hardcore style i.e first to see someone usually wins so you have to think about your surroundings more, and use cover. (something i find utterly fantastic as i usually play hardcore S&D COD anyway) The way you have to earn helicopters etc and for want of a better word kill streaks is also awesome.

A few patches and this game will be one of the best MP shooters out there. Reminds of wolfenstein a little in how fast it is.

With this, Brink, IL2, red orchestra and secret world 2011 is looking up. oh and maybe deus ex 2 :)

this is what my m8 wrote about the game glad i didn,t buy it :)

This truely is the most pathetic excuse for a game i have ever had the misfortune of buying in my gaming life.
With so much potential before launch, the story line, the battleperks idea etc, i was really looking forward to playing this. The reality however, is a different story altogether.
Lets start with performance. Or lack of it as the case is on this steaming pile of ****e. Now my PC is what i would class as above average, i5 @ 4.6, 8Gb of Corsair Vengance, and ATI 5970 you would expect the Unreal engine to be a piece of **** and run at blinding frames per second, think telephone numbers and you would be in the ball park. Finding im running at 40-50 with 50% of the time the low 20's (ive even seen teens at times), and you gotta wonder what is wrong. Add into that equation that i have to run it in dx9 (yep, that long forgotten version of direct x we all thought had been left behind with the dinosaurs) to get above single figure frames per second and you know beyond a doubt that this game has issues. having a G19 keyboard allows me to monitor cpu usage on the fly, how is it possible that such old tech can max my 4 cores in spikes? There is also the huge memory leak problem. Optimization is non existant with this pile of ****.

So on to the game itself. With high hopes and an itchy trigger finger i pulled off the shrink wrap and slapped the disc into the drive (i got the steel edition hard copy) i clicked the install button and sat back expecting 5 mins of installation, picked up the game manual and started reading. Made a coffee, watched a repeat of Top Gear on Dave, scratched my balls, went for a bath..... you get the picture. 9 ****ing Gig i had to download, Ill say that again,
I bought the hard copy and had to download 9GB
What ****ing use was buying the hard copy? Oh yes, thats right, we had to as although it calls steam home, we in the UK cant buy it from steam. You couldnt make it up. Hands up, i admit i didnt have that much of a wait, luckily for me im on a 50mbs line and i had it downloaded in about 20 mins, but what about Joe Gamer out there on a 1mb line with a download cap? What does that poor ******* do? Download in instalments? You may say "But Mucker, you download any other Steam game and dont complain". And you would be right, but i dont go out and buy hard copies of them either, i buy a hard copy i expect the game to be on it, i buy digitally distributed software i know my modem is getting exercised.
Anyhoo, installation complete, i fired it up. This is where i turned my frown, upside.... wait... it turned into a bigger frown. Why was my cursor behaving like it was starring in a Chaplin movie? What is this strange jerky movement across the server browser screen? WTF?
Turns out i hadnt applied the dozens of fixes required to let Mucker play a game he just forked out the folding for. So Google time, hunt through game files, change this config, alter that file, sprinkle of magic internets dust and save it all (At this stage i was still looking forward to playing). Start up again, oh ffs setting didnt save the last time round, do them all over again, server browser still move like it has parkinsons, ignore it and find a server, its loading its loading, game starting, been looking forward to this for a long time, kit selected, cant wait, jump into the game proper, feel like a kid on Xmas morning, here we go.....WHAT IN **** IS THIS???
Genuine first impression.
The graphics are terrible. Honestly, Battlefield 2 looks better. If your coming from Bad Company 2 or Medal of Honor you are about to experience what i like to call, severe eye bleed. It looks like a game from 4 or 5 years ago. In an age when gamers demand more or move on to the next thing like a cheap hooker after a trick, the devs on this one have taken the tried and trusted route of hype something enough, no matter how bad, and it will sell. There doesnt look to be any effort went into this game at all. The animations are terrible. Try throwing a grenade and it just looks..... well wrong. It looks like a girl throwing. All namby pamby and flappy. What the hell did they motion capture that from? Julian Clary?
The gameplay itself was nothing to write home about either, there didnt seem to be any purpose about it, even when it had a supposed objective, no one gave a **** about it. It was random running around spray and pray, meaningless bull****e.
The hit boxes are off by a mile, i could clearly see an enemy, i brought my sight up and fired only to find i was hitting the rock i crouched 2 feet away from. Was like some sort of invisible rock shield. Why would a rock need a force field anyway? While i was wondering why my digital enemy wasnt sprawled out bleeding code from the multiple bullet holes i had riddled his digitally rendered head with, he fired off a single round and i was toast. And that was my first experience of the bionic sniper. It seems they can rebuild him. They can rebuild a load of them in fact. As the sniper in this game seems to have laser guided projectiles that seek and destroy via dna coding or something, the ******** never miss. send these ****ers to Afghan and the troops will be home in time for Eastenders and evening tea. Physics in Homefront are a foreign concept. I actually tested it for myself, aiming 5 feet behind someone i still got a kill. Maybe they died of shock. I had managed to build up enough battlepoints to get the perks on the go, first i tried was a flying chopper drone with missiles, well when i say missiles i think the more fitting description would be nerf shots, you know those foam ****ers annoying kids always seem to shoot you with in summer time.Would get a kill quicker with Chinese water torture than the drone shots. Regardless, i flew it about spotting enemies for my fellow super snipers to pick off, and zoomed down low above a few buildings, too low as it turned out, as my drone managed to melt through the roof of one building. It just gets better i thought.
I could go on and on about this game, but im going to leave it there as thats exactly what i did whilst playing it.
The faults are many, and whilst i list some im sure in the confusion and mounting numbers of them i will miss some out, feel free to add in as needed.

so i take it he dont like it?:)

Well lets see
Performance - runs a like a dream for me, perhaps it is his pc.
Graphic are are terrible what planet is he on? I think they look good.
Maps are carbon copies eh? Not sure if he is playing the same game as me.
Hackers - well I'll give him that met two hackers tonight so far.
The in game browser works fine for me
Maps too small eh? again not sure if he is playing the same game as me.
Snipers - I'll give him that one.
I bought the retail version and I was ****ed off with having to dl 5gib, it took me nearly 9 hours to download.

It has a fair few problems but what new fps does not? I challange you to name one.

Performance wise it's great on my system, no qualms or troubles. Will do a Fraps run in a bit to see what i'm really getting.

Graphically it's on par with any of the CoD games and BFBC2 as well.

Maps are varied, but a few more wouldn't go amiss. I do like the way so many places are open and there's loads of cover and you can ususally flank the annoying sniper at some point, somewhere.

I'll agree about the maps being too small BUT only when you're in the choppers. On foot or a ground vehicle they're fine but they feel a little cramped in the aerial vehicles yes.

Snipers are a little annoying, but flank them and you're good.

Will I play this if Brink lives up to my expectations? No. Will I play this, MoH, Black Ops, Cod 4, MW2 or any other FPS if BF3 hits all the spots? Hell no! Will this and Brink do until then? yeah, they will, i hope.

All I want from this game is to keep me occupied with my mates online until BF3 hits really. And I feel it will do that. It's buggy, yes, but the gameplay is good.

All IMO of course... but a few bullets, pros and cons from MY EXPERIENCE of it.

Pros

Good, solid gameplay
Fighting based on your rifle, not nade spamming, or RPG'ing everything
I really like Ground Control mode, it's like a combination of Domination in COD and Rush in BC2.
Loads quickly, simple to pick up and get in a server etc, server browser works, favourites work, searching works.
I love the battlepoints for 'killstreaks', very well implemented
The battlecommander option, for having high priority targets etc is excellent. Really gets the fear on you when your on a streak :)
Runs smoothly, and my system isn't great (an old Intel Dual Core overclocked along with an ATI 5850, runs on max settings with the AA turned down a bit lol)

Cons

Bugs, but all new FPS games seem to be plagued by this and I'd imagine they will get sorted. By no means is it unplayable. Bugs don't affect performance for me.

Snipers. Too many of them, no bullet drop etc.

Not enough maps, but more will be released I imagine.

Could use more than just GC and TDM modes to be honest... but again DLC?

Chat box, it's right at the bottom by the minimap, and is really hard to just say hi to someone.

Hackers. There are too many!!!

Steam - I would have bought it on Steam, if I could. Annoying for a steam game lol.

I do have a speedtouch and am on BE internet. What setting changes did you make? Thx.

I did this a while back and it worked for me with Steam, since then I set my router to factory defaults and totally forgot how to do it until I found the thread and applied those settings in the config again. I too was getting the same issues in HF, 30 seconds in server and other players turned into statues then walking into walls and unable to die.

it's just a basic virgin setup, with a dlink router. no non standard settings on it... confused :( disappointed the game doesn't work well for me, or a lot of folk I know!

Sorry can't help you with your router. Edit ~ You could try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq8VfHBXQDM

I'm really loving homefront so far, about 2 hours in, graphics and gameplay are both amazing imo...my PC is over 3 years old but still runs the game in high settings.

quad core at 2.3ghz, 4gig of ram, and ATI 5770 1gig...the only thing I upgraded was the graphics card and that was about a year ago now.
