Homeworld & Homeworld 2 HD remakes in the works

Are they still making Homeworld for the iPad? I thought I remember reading somewhere that the project had been cancelled?

No there not making hw for the ipad that was a indie company if it was even a real company that tried to get the hw license which they failed at.

Also someone mentioned relic. Well i doubt any of the important devs that were involved with hw are there anymore it seems there moved on and blackbird interactive has a few of the best ones from them days i.e rob cunningham which did the art. So it should be "shut up blackbird interactive" or i guess for hw 1 and 2 remakes "shut up gearbox" but that doesnt sit right with me lol.

Not quite .... Shipbreakers is a game being made by Blackbird Interactive who are comprised of guys who used to work at Relic. Its a completely different game compared to the Homeworld series although the art style is similar. They announced this a number of months ago as Hardware: Shipbreakers ..... Gearbox are lending the Homeworld name to the game which Blackbird may or may not retconn back into the Homeworld universe. Most likely a Gearbox PR stunt :p

Ahhh ok! must have misinterpreted this;

During its PAX panel today, Gearbox announced Homeworld: Shipbreakers, a new game being developed in cooperation with Blackbird Interactive.

Blackbird was previously developing the game as a spiritual successor to Homeworld with the title Hardware: Shipbreakers, but Gearbox confirmed today that it will now be released as part of the franchise instead, and Gearbox will provide financial support to make sure the game can be completed and achieve Blackbird's vision.

Either way I am looking forward to some HD HW goodness. I tried a couple of months ago to get it working on win8 with no joy :(

I cant remembe much but one of the final missions in HW where you are fighting off waves of missile destroyers and frigates and some more jump gates opened...

I think that was one of the most emotional events in computer gaming history for me lol.

Aldago for strings goes a long way in this game, cant wait to see the updated version

tried playing HW 2 recently and yikes it was terribadly looking

Gearbox have posted a fan survey to get some feedback about what people want to see in the game (although it's mostly about a Collector's Edition version):

"In-game rewards"

Uh-oh. Not sure I like the sound of that. How are they considering crowbaring in-game rewards into the collectors edition? Didn't the original already let you change the cosmetic colours and decals? Are they talking exclusive ship models or something?

I never played HW2 much due to the insane auto-jump thing once the mission had ended. I used to end up trying to keep a single enemy alive while I built my fleet back up, because once the mission was successful, you jumped immediately, regardless of how battered your fleet was :o

For those that have a working HM2 install still , make sure you are patched up and goto http://www.moddb.com/mods/homeworld-2-ultra-high-graphics for this mod

There are plenty of similar ones and I urge you to try them. Totally brings new life back to HM2 , Also the battlestar/stargate/star wars mods they are awesome!

for those who can't get a working install keep searching I'm sure you will find it somewhere (GoG ? ..Yarr?)

Remember playing with a few starwars/trek mods for the original years ago, imagine the ones for hw2 are no less fun.

Filled in the gearbox feedback after seeing it posted on blues. Tbh iv'e no interests in any collectors edition, made that clear. All for me atleast is just for them to tart up the original.

Multiplayer options and the UI aside, the original story, music, ambience, units and whatnot would be better left untouched.

For me one of the best single player pc games ever, the story, narative and the immersiveness that gets created rolls in to an incredible experience.

I fear with that question set though that they dont think a standalone higher def update will cut it for them financially, their looking for claw it back with collectors sales or multiplayer monetize. While neither effects me, looks like their looking for enough people to buy into the idea.

Good news for folk like me that have never played any of those games. I'll definitely take a close look at this when it arrives. :)

Cool - this was a great game, I still remember playing this for hours.

Hopefully they removed all limits on everything, some of us just like to have massive fleets / armys for fun :)

Brilliant strategy gameplay and a very good storyline, these days it is difficult to even get one of those aspects :p

You should check out "Nexus: The Jupiter incident" while you are waiting.
