Horizon: Zero Dawn [PS4]

Picked up a PS4 Pro and this yesterday, can anyone share any beginner hints & tips at all?

Dont eat yellow snow!! :p

Depends on your play style. I tend to prefer stealth and good positioning to harry enemies so my character is geared to that.

I have found the sharpshot bow and blast sling pretty invaluable but I have also just started experiementing with the war bow which has elemental pay loads that coupled with a certain skill upgrade makes it a formidable weapon.

I would say try and upgrade carrying capacity early on as you will soon struggle to fit everything if you dont. Harvest as much resource as you can a d remember to always sell useless items to traders for shards. Just be careful as some items are needed for crafting or purchasing upgraded weapons.

Plan any attacks carefully, laying traps and trip wires as needed. If you do get into a tight spot you can mostly run away. If you choose to stand and fight then keep moving and dodging. Most machines will make short work of you close up if you dont.

I finished the entire game on the hardest difficulty and if I'm remembering the correct trial, there are two piles of three shells in that hunting area, not too far away from each other.
Look harder :)

I did look hard since I kept running back abandoning the trial to reset it. The area was in front of the stalkers on the rocky wall. There were only 4 Shellwalkers in the area. I ran all over the area and everytime 1 crate on the ground at each end on my game. I kept getting into fights since there were no others on the ground so I had to blow their crates off. Eventually got it.

The Trampler/Glinthawks trial was most fun though so far.

Hmmm..... perhaps I am remembering a different trial then.
It has been a while since I finished it :)

You're definitely right but they must have changed it in patches because this you had to do it under 50 seconds. On mine it was 1:05.

The crates/shells certainly were not sitting like this for me.

Funny, I forgot to use the Weaver armour. It made it more fun though without it.

I need to crack on and do a bit more story. Considering im about 35hrs in I have only just met Avad and am on his 1st quest. Lol.

Been exploring a lot and done all but 1 tallneck.

I havent even looked at lodges

In terms of ravagers I simply pop off one of their guns and mow them down with it. The ravager gun makes short work of most things. :)

You pacing yourself as well?

Couldn't sleep last night so I finished the game. Ended up with 92% trophies, couldn't be bothered to look for objects and beat up dummies. Was a fun game, not sure I'll go back for the DLC though as it can only be more of the same. I need to play something pretty linear now, like a Telltales game :)

Damn, that last Lodge trial was intense for under two minutes. Ravagers not ending up where you wanted them to be so I ended putting on the weaver armour for this one time.

They really send you on endless journeys for some of these quests.

I only had the armor for the last mission as I left the story once Sylens talked about point of no return. I think it was perfect timing, it would have been less fun doing the side stuff with it but on the other hand that last mission would have been a pain without.

I'm going to try the finale tonight maybe... while not using the weaver on very hard. Only have two trophies left.

All alllies joined and end game. Need to check off if I have all the quests before I start it but it looks like I might have them as I counted 22 or 23 quests from the list.
Though first, I need to go resource hunting again. Used nearly all of my 300 wires through most of the big quest battles and trials. Love this part tooling up the potions, traps, ammo and other resources. A few other pouches still to fully upgrade.
Though, I could buy them with the 11,000 shards but that is too quick and easy. I want to soak it all up for an intense ending. 150 hours I think I have on it now. Still don't want it to end. :(

I have no idea what I'm expecting for the finale. :D

Lmao, stock up on those health petals because you'll need them! It's an okay ending to the game I thought and no means the last we'll see of Aloy for sure.
I'm still hoping for news of DLC on the game whilst I currently play through Yakuza 0. Tempted to re-start Horizon for the third playthough though!

I buy wire from merchants. 5 shards each. Glinthawks are good for wire and scrappers can be OK roo.

Im getting through tons of the stuff since I upgraded to the multiple arrows at the same time skill! Lol.

The game really annoyed me earlier. I was exploring and had carved through quite a few machines and took the loot. Anyway running towards a far edge of the map suddenly I get a loading screen and get punted to my last save.

No warnings to turn back like usual. Grrrrr :(

Spent pretty much the entire day playing this

Killing my first Thunderjaw was such a good feeling, took about an hour but what an accomplishment. I've since learned about the elements and sticky bombs, so dispatching one is often under a minute. Corrupting stuff from cover is so much fun, especially rock breakers.

My incessant hunger for Blaze is annoying though. Always short of the stuff.

Are you sure you weren't so fixated on the gorgeous surroundings that you missed the huge pop-up in the middle of the screen telling you that you were leaving the playing area and would have your previous save loaded? I saw that message lots.

No it didnt appear. Thats why it annoyed me. Wasnt any scenery to see - I was running up a snowy hill so it was just a wall of white. A big yellow warning message would not have been overlooked! :)

What also annoys me is that it is in the game at all because a lot of other areas have an invisible physical barrier which seems like a better way to do it.

Hmmm..... I guess it's possible that some 'shapes' of the out of bounds areas are possible to enter in such a way that you also get booted so fast the message never has a chance to display.
Unlucky !! :P

Never seen the out of bounds warning. Have got irredeemably stuck in rocks a few times and had to reload from save mind, not bad though considering how much terrain and foliage collision geometry there is in the world.
