Horizon: Zero Dawn [PS4]

I decided a while ago to make my game library completely digital. REALLY annoys me that Sony have the monopoly on digital content and charge the earth but what are you gonna do? I tend to wait for sales and slowly upgrade my discs to digital. Still, I am pretty sure their monopoly is probably breaking a competition law or two.

Missed out on the Alien Isolation collection, left it in my cart and got distracted so forgot to buy it. It went from something silly like £12 to £49.99. Gutted. Nevermind I'm sure it will come around again.

In the last round of sales I got Bloodborne GOTY and shadow of Mordor GOTY. Also decided to buy F1 2016 at full price.

Can't be doing with discs anymore!!

I only buy digital if its not something story driven that one way or another can be completed - I download things like Street Fighter or Dirt Rally and get the disk for things like Unchartered etc so once they're done and dusted I can sell em and get summat new ;)

Never ever been bothered with trophies etc, the only game where I had to get EVERYTHING was Doom. Not a single rock left unturned, every collectable, every secret, every inch of map turned blue, all on Ultra Violence :D:D

Finished Yakuza 0 yesterday (what a ride that was!) and went back to Horizon for a quick game. Bloomin forgot the controls and died to a Ravager...with my shield weaver armour on lol :o

Fully modded up Aloy with all of the best gear and mods and I fell off the side of a cliff after the kitty cat pounced on me!

I'm the same, I have never bothered trying to achieve trophies. Seems an odd way to play a game.

I loved Doom. Probably my fave game of 2016. Still havent done everything yet, but I had a fair crack on my only SP play through (ultra violece). Pretty sure nightmare mode wasn't available. Might be now I have finished it but I had to delete to make room for something else. Recently reinstalled for MP though so might give Nightmare a play through.

Still never going to be as nighmare as proper Doom nightmare though. Imagine if every enemy respawned after death?? Ah, thems were the days! :p

Currently finishing the Japanese version of Yakuza which I had since october, probably my favourite series of all time and the substories are the most creative and hilarious I've ever seen:D Have you done the one with the human statue on the bridge?:D
I can't believe that a game so mechanically old-school can be so fun to play and have so much stuff to do.

Will be moving onto Horizon next, I've only played it at my friend's so far but it felt amazing. Will probably land in my top games along TLoU, RDR and Yakuza.

What do you guys recon to longevity after main story completion? I did all caldrons, got the uber armour, all tall-necks... Yet still can't bring myself to sell it just yet as it was awesome :D

Worth going after all the mini-quests etc do you think?

Cannot believe you never done all the small quests before doing the story. They were most fun.

If you've not got a platinum trophy, you haven't played enough :D

Loved it when the platinum popped after end game. However, when do you get the platinum theme? I've had promotional emails enabled from Sony from the get go with the PS3, 5 days has passed and nothing.

Yeah I did the statue - I was in tears over that one and the Obatarian quest with the old lady. I can't get into playing as Kiryu though and virtually most of my time is spent as Majima in his Caberet Club (so addictive). I am so surprised there is no thread for the game really. I find myself perusing the GameFAQ's Yakuza forum instead. Looking forward to Yakuza Kiwami being released soon!

Horizon is superb, it isn't perfect in a few areas (UI for example) but I'll be surprised as hell if it isn't at least nominated for GOTY somewhere. So much love has been poured into the game.

I've made a thread about the game here but it got buried under more popular stuff. Quite sad as this is easily up there with the best titles not only on PS4 but in general.

Horizon would be nailed on for most GOTY awards so far if it weren't for BotW.

I've got two hunting lodge blazing suns to complete, then just the collectibles (abnuk figurines, metal flowers), vantages and I'm done :(

Both are pretty fantastic so I don't really care which one gets it. I'm positive it'll be between those two, unless RDR 2 releases in October as planned and turns out utterly brilliant (which isn't improbable).

Anyways, GOTY doesn't really mean much. It's often been awarded to games I'd never even nominate for it.

Play(ed) my PS3, 360 & PS4 to death - occasionally turn on the Xbone to watch a DVD/use Plex; but haven't ever bothered with chasing gamer scores or trophy's - the game play has always been the important thing to me; not the added baubles. Sure, getting the odd pop up here and there saying I've done X or Y is fine, but I don't go chasing them to top out a game - hence in all the years and many 1000s of hours, I have not a single platinum or 100% :D

Well, what do they say, it's better to have something and not need it, than to need something and not have it?

I see trophies the same way. If you don't wanna hunt them, then having them there isn't hurting or affecting you, however, some like to squeeze every little last drop of challenge out of a game, then it's better to have them there than not.

I don't get those people who are rabidly against trophies/achievements like they're having their life ruined by them, but to be fair, you don't sound like one of those :D

I think they add extra value to the game. I know I wouldn't have played some of my games half as much if it wasn't for trophies. Especially difficulty level ones.

I can see why people like getting trophies.

Personally I think I am far too casual for platinums :p

I'm not a trophy hunter but some games I think warrant it. The really good stories once you've played it numerous times I think deserves a platinum.

Uncharted, The Last of Us, Horizon, Metal Gear...

Can't see myself playing through HZD again anytime soon after completion. I'm already up to 46hrs on my first play through and I have barely touched the story!! Still on the Avad's first quest as I decided to go around and get all the flowers, vantages and vessels. Also now cracked all cauldrons except Zeta (soon my thunderjaw foe, soon!!).

Got all the tallnecks and I am doing random side quests as I come across them whilst exploring. Also now got blazing suns on all challenges of 2 hunting ground trials but theres a ton more to sort out. Then theres the corrupted zones I'm trying to clear, but damn some of them are tough.

So yeah, I think I will pretty much need a break for a year or so before returning to this title! :p
