You should be able to get the same type of desktop as i have regardless of distro, i used the mac4lin package plus a few extras that should work on any distro :-)

probably posted in here before, but not for a while. This is my macbook, mostly used for development and so want something nice and light that keeps out my way :)

Openbox and pypanel with gnome-do and yakuake not shown for all my launching needs. Works a treat for me!

Just started to work on my uni dissertation so I decided to resurrect my old laptop with a linux install so I could type from the comfort of my bed :D Settled on OpenSUSE 10.3.

It's nothing special, but I was impressed that absolutely everything worked 'out of the box.' I thought I'd have to mess around with wireless drivers at least.

Been playing around with the Mac4Lin package today although I can't get Avant or Cairo dock working because my Intel X3100 intergrated graphics are blacklisted by Compiz in Gutsy. I hear the issue is resolved in Hardy so not long to wait until some Mac like dock goodness. Just imagine all the desktop and quicklaunch shortcuts at the top on a dock like NigeyUK's :D

I'm giving Linux a good try over the next 28 days before reviewing on how it is compared to Windows and OS X for everyday "studenty" usage... :)
