How and why the hell do people defend the actions of travellers?

a lot of tar brushing going on here. Nothing different for GD and everyone jumping on the bandwagon.
Not surprisingly with the weighted t.t. and as Buchtis says, you'd come across as mad to.
However, mainly because the o.p. goes on to only mention the negative actions.
I could quite easily paint a entirely unfavourable picture of the "British" people as a whole, by highlighting only negative actions. Indeed if I had to, bring up mention of the ultimate "crapping in peoples backyards" the British empire has and still do to this day, albeit with "new" (sarcastic lol) alies under a different banner. The bad actions of these "Travelers" you speak of as a whole, would pale quite frankly into insignificance.
What may be more constructive would be a bit of empathy, though maybe you were not born with the capacity for that, or more to the truth, you have never had that positive trait instilled/brought up in you yet.
I feel I am wasting my time here
as I can pre-empt your anger to my post already and not a change of heart.

I'd like to hear something positive about travellers!
Of course in the mean time you'd be hospitalised while they'd have to deal with..oh my..the bad PR within their community.
Sounds like a low risk tactic to me! Carry on!
No they are not, they are protected under the same law as ethnic groups (race relations act) but are not one themselves, its a common mistake, travellers by definition are made up of people from varying races and ethnic backgrounds.

So you have extensive experience with the majority then? Or have you just read a few 'balanced' articles in the Sun. Simple fact is you can typecast a group of people all you like but at the end of the day they are just individuals..to judge them all under one label is like saying all british have bad teeth or speak like upper class toffs. That is no more true than your equally ill informed opinion.
They regularly turn up relatively close to where I live and cause trouble until they are moved along by the police (not sure if it's the same ones every time though).
I'v never come across anyone with a good word to say about them in fact.
What makes your opinion more informed than mine anyway? I could just as easily and with the same validity say that your opinion is naive and ill informed when it comes to travellers. I assume you are a traveller or have relatives who are.
I don't read The Sun either.
Ask yourself the question why these law abiding hard working individuals choose to live a life style that attracts this kind of negative attention.
there was going to be traveler site around here once, until the community protested against it and then one of the farmers or somebody dumped a 10 foot high mound of dirt at the entrance, it's still there now several years later lol

I am neither a traveller nor to my knowledge do I have any relatives that are. And you are quite correct my opinion on them would be ill informed if I had one...however I don't. I have rarely encountered travellers and even if I had the chances of me being able to honestly say the majority are scum are next to nil. You have no evidence other than a general hatred shared by most....now wait a minute why does that sound familiar.....ah yes 1930s Germany and Jews.....I suppose that blind hatred was different to your blind hatred? Fact is I can't dispute that at least some of the ones you have met where scum, but even in those groups did you meet all of them? are you able to honestly say you can fairly judge each individual in that entire group let alone all those that fall under the label 'traveller'.
As to asking why they choose to have a life style that attracts negative attention.....plenty of people do? overly religious people attract a lot of negative attention from me but does that mean they are wrong? of course not they, like travellers are free to do things you and I don't like (within the law of course)....deal with it or move to a more regimented country like North Korea.

Maybe the men don't carry there keyboards around with them, Who knows ?
Also it's kind of strange on a percentage basis,
Untold chavs on every estate & in every town at the weekends smashing the place up & fighting with each other & the police whilst claiming dole & smoking weed & drinking to much against a few travelers who may help themselves to scrap metal or over charge for hedge cutting tarmac whatever.
I also can't understand how you think that Travelers get away with driving illegally & ignoring the law of the land ? Where's Myth busters when you need them.

Woaaah there, the bloke you are arguing with has first hand experience of "travelers", I have first hand experience of "travelers" invading the area where I used to live.
Twice they have tried to steal diesel from the lorry I was driving, they tried to steal the tanks off one our tractor units while the driver was sleeping in his cab, and we had numerous break in attempts at our depot while the scum were in town.
For those of us that dont live in a city or large town these people are a nightmare to deal with, the closest a townie can come to understanding what its like dealing with a load of travelers arriving on your doorstep is having a load of dole scrounging hoodies dumped in your garden who you are not allowed to remove.
