Im 18 years old and can only hear up to 16- when they make ear plugs that are genuinely not noticeable i'l wear them... also either my hearing has deteriorated dramatically recently, or the music down in bath is considerably quieter than up in birmingham (in clubs obviously)
- scratch that i can hear up to 18, possibly 19, but its a bit weird
It isn't actually, clearly it isn't scientific as folk have all different kinds of audio play back devices. I'm sure most people would hear higher frequencies if they turned their speakers/headphones up loud - but that isn't the point - it's seeing where the drop off is.
My wifes hearing dropped off 3Khz higher than mine, she was hearing stuff at 15-16 KHz that I couldn't hear at all at normal volume, and when I turned it up loud enough to hear was shouting at me to turn it down.
Edit: I highly dont recommend turning it up loud enough to hear, if it's past where your ears drop off then it's going to be a very loud, very bad for you noise regardless of whether you can hear it or not.
I can't hear 15,16,17,18 (okay, 15 and 17 very slightly, but so so quiet). 19 is a little quieter then the others but all the rest (20,21,22) are normal volume. 22 sounds a little croaky , maybe my cheap headphones struggle with the frequency.
If I turn the volume slider all the way down (1 bar) I can still hear 8-13, 14 quiet, nothing else. Obviously far less sensitive to the higher frequencies but not completely gone yet
