How bad is your hearing?

Hear 15 fine, 16 and 17 I can notice they start and stop but nothing inbetween.
I'm similar. I think I can hear 16 and 17, but it might just be in my head because of the audible click at the beginning and end of the clips. I'm 36 though, so I'm pleased with the results :D

upto 20khz....im 33......speakers up loud......

and i would be carefull with your speakers.....as we tried an audio frequency test disk on a philips top of the range surround system a couple years ago in our workshop and at the top end of the frequency band the speakers just melted and started to smoke....was fun though lol

20 years old, can just about hear 20kHz with my speakers not too loud (you could listen to music and comfortably have a conversation).

Wearing earplugs in clubs is win. ;)

i can hear up to 17kHz, but i haven't got the speakers loud.

i think for this test to be considered fairly accurate, you need to have the volume at what you consider a normal level i.e. what you would watch t.v. at.

EDIT: just tried this again with headphones, and i can hear 17kHz now, but no further. i calibrated the volume with the 8kHz sound and balanced it between the heads and my speakers.

at a guess, i'd say my speakers + amp weren't quite as reliable at relaying 17kHz, but the headphones have a slightly better response at that frequency.

you need *perfect* output stages for this to really be valid, and everyone would need to test on the same equipment to get any kind of correlation

Depends on the volume, if I have it mid volume, I can hear up to 17khz, if I put it on max volume, I can surprisingly hear all the way up to 22khz (Over 20khz just seem very quiet)

I am 26.

EDIT:

^^^^ That was using in-ear ear phones, I tried using just the laptop speakers, and even at max volume I could only hear up to 17khz.

After 18 I can only hear it very faintly, at 20 it totally dissapears. I'm 19 almost 20. Using Senn IE6's I found in lost property unclaimed at the end of the year (retail £70 :D)

Strange actually some of the higher frequencies were making my arm muscles fasciculate (sp?)

also, the background noise will have some effect, as if something is also making a similar frequency and of a similar amplitude it will mask the sound you're trying to hear

Can hear the 17kHz through my speakers at 26yo. No headphones at the moment.

Thread of the week by the way. So interesting!

17khz in left ear
16khz in right ear

Which is interesting as it's the right ear i've had a lot of ear infections with in the past

EDIT: i do have a head cold at the moment, feel very stuffed up upstairs, could that effect it negatively or not?

Can hear a tone on them all, I use to for hearing test when I was younger due to a medical problem and use to do tests with these tones all year in year out so I must have evolved super hearing :D
