how common is it for a 360 to die?

First one 3rrod after about 16 months, got a 2nd core about 2 months ago and ive started to get green lines running down things in R6V1, only happens on split-screen co-op and Vegas 2 is fine, could it be the game, anyone else had this? Texture pop-in seems a lot worse than my first premium as well.

One piece of advice (The rest is just subjective tbh), stand it horizontally. It definitley makes less noise when disc is spinning. Whilst it won't eleviate your RROD fears, it MAY stop it scratching/burning discs, which is another common issue.

100% agree- got mine vertically atm as I'm completely out of space for it to go horizontal. It's making twice as much noise as it used to, it's a complete pain and I'm bricking it that it'll start scratching my disks.

You've probably got one of the slow reading benq drives in your new console.

my 4 year old one died on my last week, was gutted :(

Just send it back to MS - none of them are past the 3 year mark yet.

My 2nd one died a few weeks ago - I just sent it back and received it repaired yesterday......and mine was *ahem* modded with no warrany sticker. They just sent it back with a nice note saying they had found the mobo and DVD drive (!) faulty and replaced them.

Awesome service - 5 working days.

Id respond with quite often but MS support is spot on. I suppose practice makes perfect :P

mines has always stood vertical with no problems and, interestingly, my neighbour got a falcon at xmas and it stopped reading disks but when i changed its orientation from horizontal to vertical problem solved !

It seems that the 360 is about as likely to die as any electronic equipment,

The older models are prone to RROD but the newer ones are fine (still doesn't mean you're immune, the ps3 is very reliable but it can still mess up)

my arcade hdmi one i got as a replacement to premium RRD console was going strong until recently its not RRDing but the screen just freezes after 10 min of play. anyone else get this?

Why, when the current ones rarely fail?

Where are the figures to back that up?

Read the interview with the ex-MS engineer/whistleblower, the GPU simply generates too much heat, they've tried to alleviate the problem by installing a bigger heatsink and still they die.

These are just in the past one month on this one forum:

...and I wouldn't be surprised if the GPU is behind most RROD's either.

Mark my word Jasper should be a lot more reliable in the long term, all they have done so far is just bandage over the problem.

Well with your attitude towards failures, no one would be buying any console would they?
Loads of fails for Playstation 3's, but you're still so quick to recommend them... hypocritical?

Of those you posted, only 2 were new Xbox360's (which I clearly stated).
You ask me of my figures (for which I have friends in retail, eyes to see on the Internet and posts in consoles), where are your figures saying otherwise?
