how common is it for a 360 to die?

my elite died last week (brought sept 07) with the 3LOD error. Took it back to the highstreet store where we purchased it and they swapped it over without question.

strange that they never noticed the rather obvious marks where the case had been popped ... lol

It's not the heat, it's the xclamp. The GPU's aren't dying, it's the solder joints getting damaged by flexing. That engineer is a retard if he's directly blaming heat.

The one I sent for repair which arrived on the 1st July has been shipped back to me on the 2nd. Looks like they are twiddling their thumbs just now with repairs...

another one bites the dust here about 18 month old not a falcon

coloured square hangs then 3 red lights a day later

build quality is shocking replacement better be more reliable

If you cba re-read the thread I counted about 7 or 8 people with recent failures. Anyway its a lot lot better!

7 or 8 recent failures does not mean that all 7 or 8 are Falcon boards.

Original Xenon systems are repaired/refurbed with non-HDMI Zephyr boards (and like for like with repaired Zephyr systems).

Zephyr's with HDMI are probably being repaired with the same Zephyr boards.

Falcon boards are again probably being repaired with Falcon boards.

Microsoft are apparantly creating a new revision named Opus which will be used for Xenon/Zephyr systems in repairs (latest chip revision to fit old non-HDMI cases).

Jasper will be the next new revision for brand new 360's.

I had to replace my Premium on the day I got it, because the optical drive stopped reading discs after about 5 hours, so I took it back, and all is now well - new one has been fine since November 2007.
