HOW DO I BUILD MY PC NOW IVE BOUGHT ALL THE BITS?

Nice building mate, will be attempting my first build at the end of the month. Have all my parts expect the CPU just waiting until payday for that. Your asking many of the questions I probaly would have so the thread will be useful for me.

Cant wait to see the finished article.

Morning - liberty 7.

Update on the 'baby' situation please before attempting assignment '4-pin'

right - its a total repeat of yesterday - he is due a long sleep at which point ill get back to work on this, missus is in too so i cant even 'quickly nip off' (but shes off to work in 5 mins ha ha!) - ive managed to pop the cover off the slot and plugged the cable in and the other end is in the psu - slight problem with the cable now running where the graphics card will lie but ill tweak it in a bit.

keyboard and mouse arrived this morning which is good

no sorry up until the last time i bought a motherboard (last year?) they came with standard metal screws with no insulation. nothing to worry about, just didnt know when mobo makers started shipping them with their boards..

I think you're going to have half the OverClockers community hold their breath when you post to say you're switching it on for the first time. We'll almost be as nervous as you...

Great thread, great pics - if it was edited this would probably make a great sticky for a new build.

Gripping stuff - good luck with it, benenhausen.

this is called an I/O module i believe..
is it necessary? it seems to be extra to what i already have on the back of the pc.

if necessary i guess it slots in anywhere free at the back

It is extra and not necessary unless you need the extra usb ports etc. I would leave that disconnected for now until you've tested that
the rig works properly.

If you want more USB ports and firewire (is that firewire?) then plug it in to the headers. They are probably at the bottom of the mobo, although I could be wrong. You can always put the module in later if you find you need to expand.

Edit: I agree with the others that you should test the base machine before adding stuff like this.

oh, and by the way, i really havent done this before - just incase i look like i know what im doing and then i ask a stoopid question!!!

someone earlier said 'too many cooks'...not at all

....i wouldnt have even attempted this if i couldnt get quick online advice from you guys. i dont know anyone who deals in computers other than my brothers who live 250 miles away!!!

it is firewire you can see - do i need firewire???i think i had a firewire cable on a nokia n95 phone
from what i can see thats the only socket i dont already have on the back

If you don't already use firewire, then don't put it in just yet. If you do need to use it later, then you can put it in. No need to make things more complicated than they have to be at this stage. At least you've now learned what the module is for.
