HOW DO I BUILD MY PC NOW IVE BOUGHT ALL THE BITS?

This should be called the PC OcUK built as it seems everyone has had some input at some point.

Id be keen to see some inside shots as well.

Ah, I can remember the first build I did....spent all day readin the various manuals, then realised that other than the front panel headers, pretty much everything was keyed so you couldn't put it in wrong :D

Just built a similarly specced machine myself - Q6600, P5Q, 8Gb RAM - and I tried ubuntu too, but as I recall it's not too keen on the ICH10 southbridge; I had to set my SATA controller to IDE mode, as opposed to AHCI. Or something.

I then started from scratch, installed XP, Vista, Win7 7077, and used a boot config manager to sort out the NT6 bootloader. Hoping Grub can handle that when I stick Umbongo on with a pizza later...

Kudos to the OP, the first time is always the trickiest, but I think you'll find that once you get comfortable with getting the side panel off, you'll save yourself a lot of money in IT engineers charges. I aught to know, I am one ;)

re the icons, have u got the resolution set to the native for the screen??

and have u loaded the lates drivers for your nvidia card??

Agreed, it was one hell of a collaberation - and strangley addictive/compelling towards the end. I'm just thankful it didn't have any faulty components - troubleshooting would have proved problematic... Having said that the pics would have been interesting.

Looking at his desk top screen shot he's probaly too busy playing Far Cry 2 on his new rig to take pics - it must fly.

Benenhausen, your public need an update - how's the new build coping? :) (pics, temps and benchmaks.)

im still here guys lol.....

ive sorted the only too obvious sound issue....

ive now got a problem running messenger - its a key ports issue apparently but i havent found anything that could be the cause...it seems to have started when the pc realised i was running messenger on 2 pcs in the same house....any ideas?

also, im d/loading windows 7 rc - i want to take pictures of the inside of the machine for all to see - the download will take a few hours - can i take the side off with it all plugged in and running or do i risk electricution and probable death?

also, when i go into games i can see that windows vista gives far cry 2 a required rating of 4.0, a recommended rating of 5.5 and my pc system is showing a rating of 5.7 so it looks like im ok there....but only just??? anyone else know their systems rating according to windows vista?im guessing this is where overclocking comes in?

ive ordered football manager 2009 and cant wait to see how it handles it with the new 3d match engine....should arrive tomorrow....wonder what ratings recommended for that game?

so a couple of questions there...most noteably about taking the side off for photo purposes.

No risk as long as you keep your hands away from the internals while it's switched on. Mines at my feet now whirring away with its sides off.

Don't buy that game - it eats time and so very, very addictive...

ok - im going for it!

can people please tell me what parts, angles, etc they would normally like to see of the build as im not sure how to play it!

someone mentioned benchmarks and temperatures - where do i get them for pic purposes?

Just shoot the obvious - i'm sure the pics will be fine.

Have you installed any monitoring software? - if you have just load them up and look at the ''hardware monitoring section'. We're interested in the temps of you cpu, system, and the GPU - under load and idle speeds.

Benchamarking is useful for testing that your system is running stably and properly - prime 95, Furmark Aquamark 3 and SiSoft Sandra are all good.

Temperatures - realtemp and coretemp are good.

Stress testing to get the load temps: Prine 95 and Intel Burn Test are good - proper put pressure on the system.

Benchmarks - Sisoftware Sandra and PC Mark 06 and PC Mark Vantage. Any more for any more?

Actually, there is a asticky in the overclocking forum; two secs...

There ya go :)

im sorry mate but i have no idea what your talking about

Just download some of the programs we've mention (if you're inclined) and install them and have a play. They're pretty straight forward - especially Furmark.

ok - from what i gather i have to download some programs that will monitor the temp and/or performance of different parts of my computer...
...then once i have the results on screen i guess that somehow i will be able to(without photographing the screen!?)get the screen shot onto this forum page....

...pheeew.am i about right?
