How do you warn other about mobile speed cameras?

How do you get to this higher state of being, teach me the ways of never ever ever speeding, please!
I guess after a while you just grow up and realise that a clean license is actually quite valuable. It's not that hard to keep within the acceptable limits.

PS - Nice gif, real mature.

I don't think they ever claimed they had never gone over the speed limit.
I'm the same, I speed all the time but it would be a fair cop if I got caught.

Oh, Just seen that Bug One hasn't.
remarkable

This is how I see it

Guy drives into 30 zone at 40mph and I don't flash him - drives right past the speed camera and continues to speed through this area all week until he gets his surprise through the post. The camera did nothing to prevent the driver from driving through the 30 mph zone at an "unsafe" speed and therefore all the children in the area were at risk

However if I were to flash

Guy drives into 30 zone and notices a friendly motorist warning him of his "unsafe" speed and as such lowers it to a "safe" speed. The children are now safe, and will more than likely be safe in future as the driver now knows that a camera is likely to be lurking in the bushes...

The flashing scenario is safer, just doesn't earn the £££

Surely the driver should be paying attention when driving though so would notice the signs.

Getting a ticket would make the person think twice about his speed.

I hate it when you see drivers flashing lights, especially at night as it's off putting to those of us doing the speed limit.

The magic flash that protects all the children in the area. Alternative scenario. Car driver drives through 30 zone at 40mph coming up to a school. A person on other side of road flashes. Driver thinks - WTF and looks in his rear view mirror to see what the other driver is doing / or flashing him for. Clunk - runs over child at the crossing while he was looking in rear view mirror.

Who knows. Either way I don't think you really need to create a whole back story to justify doing something :p

I got caught speeding, and was banned. Things happen, and you learn from them.

Same here. I don't agree with a lot of speed limits but I know the risk and choose to flout them. I just have a massive problem with the police attitude to the "problem" of motorists warning one another.

I mean it's hardly interfering with an officer's work as an offence would need to be committed in order for that to be true - which there is no proof it has.

Also can I just clear up that 99 times out of 100 I have the utmost respect for the police and the job they do - just not in this instance.

In my part of the world I would flash people no problem, in unknown areas I might think twice.

I always open and close my hand several times near my windscreen....... a biker did the same to my family and saved us a ticket.
That action is a biker one, or at least it's the only one I saw bikers using to each other.

I tend not to inform others, I'm too paranoid that the car I'd flash would be an undercover police car.

I find the 'slow down' hand waving the least confusing on the road. Light flashing etc just makes me think something is wrong with my car. Que 10s of checking the dash and switches for something wrong.

I normally wave my arm out of the window frantically and mouth SLOW DOWN at oncoming drivers. Will continue to do so unless I'm pulled for it, the speed camera van locations around here are very crafty

Headlight flash, same as for any unseen hazard.

I've no real respect for speed traps any more, the last one I saw was instigated by the old people in the village who had nothing better to do but make life difficult for others. The day I see one in front of a school I'll post a picture of me dancing in a pink tutu.

Depends if the other car is bombing along.... If they are they deserve to be caught otherwise I give the universal sign to slow down....

So if someone is speeding you don't tell them but if they are driving at the limit you tell them not to speed up?

don't get why so many people are bothered about stopping people who are breaking the law get caught. Speed limits are set at a limit for a reason and that's safety. You flashing you lights etc at someone may make them slow down for a camera but won't stop them speeding again once they're past it meaning they're still a danger on the road for 99% of the time someone isn't flashing them. If you don't flash them and they got caught for speeding as they should they will get banned and taken off the road making it safer for everyone else.

Bit extreme example but just think the person you've flashed to slow down kills some kids speeding through a 20-30mph zone the following day, would make you feel a little guilty for helping them stay on the road.
