How long to get used to wearing glasses for first time ?

I got my first glasses around 2 years ago at the age of 30.

I found that they *did* cause eye strain at first, i could sort of feel my eyes being pushed/pulled in a certain direction (or a feeling of that) when i put them on and focused through them.

The vision was utterly amazing though, i still remember that first step outside with them on and looking up into a tree and being able to see all the detail of the leaves and branches etc.

2 years on and i dont notice any strain at all really, beyond my eyes feeling a slight sense of relaxation when i take them off after a long stint (all day) wearing.

Based on this, they should certainly not look fuzzy, my overwhelming memory is the utter clarity and "omg" feeling of the detail that i could see.

I started to wear glasses ~4 years ago and this sums up my experience pretty well. I don't recall any strain as such but more so the odd sensation of having something on my face of normally there.

I'm short sighted and the clarity difference is incredible, it was real life in HD

He's got + prescription with astigmatism = reading glasses. You're not trying to walk around with them on, right?
Not there not reading glasses

There Tailor-made varifocal lenses
https://www.specsavers.co.uk/glasses/lens-options

Just been trying them again for 10 minutes
Notice looking through the top part of them is clear & fine and the bottom close range part is fine & clear but looking through the middle part is out of focus

Ah, varifocals. IIRC some people just can't get on with them, and a lot of people take quite some time to adapt.

ill second that. I have varifocals and it took me a few days to get on with them still have small issues now 3 months down the line.
when i first put them on in the shop got a instant motion sickness feeling and also they seemed worse than my normal glases that i had before.

My Mum has been wearing glasses for 45 years and a few years ago she got some Varifocals and hated them. She went back to 1 pair.

I've been wearing glasses for 16 years. Original glasses came from a local indie shop and were fine and about 4 years later I got a new pair from Specsavers which were also fine. A recent bout of conjunctivitis made me aware that my eyes have changed so I need to get a new prescription.

Thanks for all the replies guys..

Going be annoying because if I do need new lenses I no have them for Christmas as it takes about 10+ days for them to do the lenses and postage time..

Hmm, I had zero problems with mine. If anything the prescription is not strong enough on the reading/lower section I have to perch them on the end of my nose in order to read anything without a strain

@OP: if they're fuzzy or out of focus then theres something wrong somewhere. They might feel odd/take a bit of getting used to but they should never be out of focus/fuzzy. Take them back and talk to where they came from and get yourself/them checked.

Depends how different in prescription they are. I usually leave it way too long to get new ones, so it can take a day or two to get fully used to them. If after this time they still feel odd then they're probably not fitted properly, or worse they've got the lens' wrong.

Just get them Lasered if you can...I found glasses a pain...

Considering he's an old guy, that would mean he'd need monovision laser surgery in which one eye is corrected for + power and the other for -.

Works wonders for getting by without glasses, but your binocular vision will suffer as a result. OP, to test out if you would like this, get the same done with contacts. Have one contract to correct for reading and one for distance, and see how you get on after a while.

As for me, glasses were an instant improvement - but glasses suck and I don't like em, so I don't use them ever. Will wait for my eyes to stabilise (hopefully already done) and off to the laser it is! :)

I also just got vari focal and yes, for distance you look through the top of the lenses and for reading bottom. It's a smooth transition between the prescription and if you look down while walking without moving your head it's likely blurry.

Also I find there is a small spot looking directly left or right with my eyes that is slightly blurry.

Basically you have to move your head more :)

I'm getting glasses. First ever real thing I've had (medical/physical) in life, quite strange, I'm mildly short sighted.

I'm convinced it's partly due too much screen watchage.

I've had glasses for about 30 years. They've only got marginally worse over that time and I've been in front of a computer screen for every one of my working says in that time.

Anyone wrong if my glasses prescription is wrong if I got paid for each set of glasses till it right or do they not charge ?

As these glasses cost £314 :(

Please don’t get me wrong, maybe it’s me, but I couldn’t make sense of that, I tried to guess what you might mean, but substituting other words, but I’m still not sure.
Is it, “Is anyone in the wrong if my prescription is wrong, and have I got to pay for each pair they give me until I get the right ones?”
If that’s right, I’d say that if they tested your eyes, and got the prescription wrong, then they should reimburse you for what you paid, and hopefully supply ones with the correct lenses, and let you have them for a massive discount.
I just hope that you didn’t sign something to say that you were satisfied with the bum ones.
