My mate wants to go in the army as an officer or (if he can) the paras. The times he needs to be able to run 2.5km are the following

Army officer - 2.5km in 12 minutes
Paras - 2.5km in 8 minutes

Ive just been at the gym and managed 2.5km in 10 minutes 40. Started at 14km/h then went to 15 and for the last minute or so 16.

Of course in army/paras you will need to do it with all the gear and a treadmill needs to be on 0.05 incline to be flat but I thought i did quite well.

What can you do 2.5km in?

No idea how long it takes for 2.5KM for me, I know my 100m time is 11.67s though. ;)

If I sprinted 2.5km would take me 4.8625 mins...

I cant find anything to confirm but I THINK that the running is about 9 - 9:30 minutes for a 1.5 miler.

My best at the moment is 6.20 minute miles - which would put me about 9:30 for the 1.5 miler.

I'd REALLY like pegasus1 to come and clear this up

I should have probably stuck this in fitness instead of GD judging by the stupid answers.

If 2.5km is 1.55 miles, how long did I manage to run a mile in?

About 4 weeks... give or take a day for hospital visits, resuscitation ... that kinda thing.

When I was fitter I used to be a sprinter.... none of this long distance malarky... >200m I walk.

Infact, I'll time 2.5km at the gym.

Requirement of 8 minutes for 1.5miles? Guess this is without any kit?

I'm around the 7:40 - 7:50 mark for 1.5miles on a good day. But then, I am an old man :p

thats damned fast, you must be just about sprinting to get those times. Yeh, its probably with kit you need to run 2.5km in 8mins

There used to be a weekly documentary on BBC called PARAS in the late 90's and the 1.5 mile run was definitely without kit.
I can remember my boss having a go at me about fitness and I was able to tell him that I could get in the SAS and I could prove it (only running of course).
However, I'm positive it was a 2 mile run then.

The quickest I ever did 2.5 miles in is 16 mins (that was my standard route) so no idea what I could manage 1.5 miles in but less than 12 presumably. That was running training and peak football season though so be a while till I could touch that again.
