How long to run 2.5km

Nope the 1.5 mile run is without kit.

Running and tabbing with kit comes once you start P coy

Although join the paras and your unlikely to ever get to do your jumps in order to obtain your "wings" as mod has cut back monies for jumps.

Some might say you just regular infantry if you haven't got your wings but i dont wish to start WWIII by going there :p

You sure it's 8 minutes for 2.5k?

Because that's running just faster than a 5 minute 1500m time for almost twice as long. Very few people capable of doing that!

8 min for 2.5km is indeed hard. 9.5 Min is not bad... that gives 19 min for a 5k which is about my second 5k split on a 10k :)

The mile-and-a-half times will probably be without kit if they're anything like the RAF. Also, although you 'need' 12 minutes for Army, and 8 for Paras, to be competitive you'd need to get a lot lower. For example, for Initial Officer Training in the RAF you 'need' to get lower than 12:30, however few people are hitting over 10 minutes here. My personal best is 9:03 for 1.5 miles, however I am a sprinter by trade, and I hate anything longer than 200m :D

Mile and a half (2.4km) times are without kit, 10 minutes 30 for fellas.

I did say this before!

Theres a load of people talking pap.

OP, e-mail me if you have any questions about it.

I'll also point out that treadmill times are completely incomparable to "proper" runs, and that your mate can be an officer AND para trained.

Bear in mind that the 10 minute 30 2.4km is AFTER a 500m warm up, 2 minutes of sit-ups, and 2 minutes of press ups. (In the order press ups/sit ups/warm up/run).

Ok you sure its 2.5 Km?

When I did army thing last year Im sure It was 1 mile in 11mins - I did it in 7mins no prob.

8 mins for 2.5 for Para's??? Thats tough to almost impossible! I do a 4 min Km and thats belting it along!

im sure i read somewhere a treadmill comparison for the timings, it mentioned that to do the distance on a treadmill the times would be x. cant remember where i saw it tho, might have been on the army careers website or something.

Army officer isnt 12 minutes its 10:30 actually. I do know :).

Paras isnt 8 either its sub 9. He needs to concentrate on other things than getting sub 10 at the minute such as maths current affairs and leadership (which your either good at or your not).

Im nearly done in the process of joining as an officer. If he wants any advice etc pm me.

It's 2.4km (1.5 miles) in 10mins 30!!!

k thanks.

I'm in the Army and have been for the last 3 years.

yeah well said. getting on a tread mill and running the mile and a half in no way compares to running it outside. its also worth mentioning that the ability to run it quickly is only half the story because the press ups and sit ups happen straight after the run (RAF). Good luck to the guy trying to get into the paras though. ive just been working with the paras at colchester. they are an amazing if somewhat perverted bunch

if anyone missed it when i said before, A treadmill on 0 incline is like running slightly downhill. It has to be on 0.05 incline to be running flat

DONT do your training on a treadmill do it outside so you get used to the impact. Vary your training from gym work to outside or you'll get bored i know i would.

When im doing a 5k, my best is 29mins 32 so far, if i was only doing 2.5k, id be able to do that in about 13 mins i reckon.

Im training to do a 10k in under 60 mins this year, thats my target.
