How long to run 2.5km

Of course in army/paras you will need to do it with all the gear and a treadmill needs to be on 0.05 incline to be flat but I thought i did quite well.

What can you do 2.5km in?

You're wrong. The distance you quoted is for a BFT (Basic Fitness Test), which you run wearing shorts and trainers carrying no weight.

When I served the fastest I ever managed was 8 mins 50 secs, but I wasn't in the Paras and am built like a cart horse.

I think this is only honest guy on here! lol

Rest of you are boasting about doing something you cant ;)

Im pretty fit - I work out 6 times a week and go dancing 3 times a week too.... If I do 2.5km in less than 11 mins I really feel it!!!!!!!

Fancy a race? :p

Dogs danglies spring to mind :p

It is certainly do-able and top marathon runners can keep that speed up for 26.2 miles.
However, I presume he's doing it on a treadmill so you can probably add a bit on.

I remember a girl training for a marathon on a treadmill and she only got 10 mile round a real course.

My neighbours son's (two of them) are both Para's, both instantly and whole heartedly agree that the qualification run is by far the easiest part of joining the Para's. Well, apart from filling out the forms, perhaps.

I feel is harder running on a treadmill than road running, is this the same for everyone?

not me. I hate road running, my legs are fine but my feet get a bettering on treadmill. Ive tried other trainers and my lonsdale slipper type trainers seems the best to stop blisters but feet still hurt a bit

You need to get proper running shoes, not trainers.

I'm built for running (5'10" and just under 9 stone). Can manage 4 miles in 25 mins, which means I'm doing 2.5k in almost exactly 10 mins.

To get to that level to a couple months' training, running 2 or three times a week.

I just did it in 9.59, well in for my RM test at 10.45. 14.4km/h was pretty easy and I could do it much faster I think, I stepped it up in the last 20 seconds to keep my time below 10 mins.

Thats really good, after 1 minute of 14.5km/h im nackered lol, i like to run at 13
