How long to run 2.5km

when i was in the para back in 1994 fitness levels with 50 kg packs plus rifle plus all you need for the weekend ration packs and all sorts
the burgeon was put on the scales and if it was under 50kg they had weight to it but with your uniform on rifle and boots the pack felt like ton
then you had to run 3 km in under 15 mins
then pack was taken off but you had to keep your rifle and a run back was to be under 12 mins
if you failed this no more jumps out of the plane until your fitness was back to the standard required

i just tried running a mile and nearly colapsed after 3/4 mile.

I really am now going to stop drinking beer + start eating healthy :o

Army officer isnt 12 minutes its 10:30 actually. I do know :).

Paras isnt 8 either its sub 9. He needs to concentrate on other things than getting sub 10 at the minute such as maths current affairs and leadership (which your either good at or your not).

Im nearly done in the process of joining as an officer. If he wants any advice etc pm me.

yeh, he said they recommend you reading the paper everyday for a year or something as they will give you random questions about current affairs

LIES!!!

That will fail just like the protein diet :p

You will get all fat and wobbly :D

Basic training should have you fit in no time though :)

off to gym again in a bit, ill do a small warmup then power to 14.5km/h and see how i last. May do a small row again after and then chill after my hard day at uni. (less that 1 hour) :p

50kg, that's more than my wife weighs!

2km in 10 minutes, then 45 minutes in an oxygen tent to recover :D

It's 2.4km (1.5 miles) in 10mins 30!!!

k thanks.

I'm in the Army and have been for the last 3 years.

Fair play your in the army - What regiment are you in by the way?

Your info on entry to para is wrong, go to para selection and run a 10 minute 30 and you will get a bollocking for wasteing there time

Parachute regiment run times for 1.5mile ADSC run is 9mins 18secs, however they will accept times up to 9mins 40 secs provided you can lift up to the maximum weight on the static lift.

Thank you :)

Thank you :)

So it's just a fairly gentle 9:30 1.5 miler then :D

My mate wants to go in the army as an officer or (if he can) the paras. The times he needs to be able to run 2.5km are the following

Army officer - 2.5km in 12 minutes
Paras - 2.5km in 8 minutes

Ive just been at the gym and managed 2.5km in 10 minutes 40. Started at 14km/h then went to 15 and for the last minute or so 16.

Of course in army/paras you will need to do it with all the gear and a treadmill needs to be on 0.05 incline to be flat but I thought i did quite well.

What can you do 2.5km in?

I am in 1 PWRR and I am a pretty good runner so I can manage it in 8.10 on a normal day and just under 8 on a good one. Clearly I am not Para material.

Edit: Also I think both the Para's and the Marines demand a higher level of fitness in officer applicants than for enlisted men but I might be wrong.

Rest of you are boasting about doing something you cant ;)

Im pretty fit - I work out 6 times a week and go dancing 3 times a week too.... If I do 2.5km in less than 11 mins I really feel it!!!!!!!

I've had this argument so many times.
People who don't exercise think they are capable of great feats. In one thread a couple of months ago at least three posters claimed they could WALK a mile in 10 minutes.
Before I started running a mate told me where he ran and I said that must be about 15 miles and he siad it was 5 miles and I argued. This also happened with another runner and again my vision of a mile was a third of what it was.
Last year on a run a couple with a dog claimed they had walked 6 mile and when I asked where they had come from they had come no further than half a mile.
Another mate challenged me to a run so i picked a 4 mile route and he said it would be easy. We set off and after 5 mins he'd had enough and we had gone a total of 0.5 miles.
As soon as you become a 'runner' or 'cyclist' you begin to know the distance of every A to B and know exactly the times you do. You can also shut your eyes and because you know your cruisin speed you will know how far you've gone.
I've seen and heard so much BS called over peoples fitness but most of them imagine it.

And for the record my 1.5 mile at this moment is 15 mins but I do have bad arthritis in both my knees.

It's certainly not that difficult, a good racewalker would do a mile in about 6 minutes. But I agree that it would be impossible for someone who does little/no exercise.
