I learnt to drive when my son was born due to his medical needs and constant hospital admissions (spent the almost the first year of his life in hospital before he came home).
First car was a very cheap 94 Rover 214si, turns out it was cheap for a reason and had it less than 6 months.
Then made the jump to a 98 Rover 620i, I forget the actual model spec but had most the goodies and they almost always worked
. I did love that car but I managed to write it off, as I was only 3rd party at the time
Replaced with cheap Ford Escort 1.8d estate from a mate. Had an exhaust issue that I didn't have time to sort out but got my money back selling it Ebay for someone's first car learning project.
Picked up an old S reg Mondeo 2.0 just for the boot space, as my son's specialist buggy was a hefty chunk of metal. That lasted until he qualified for a Motability car at 3 and we have been on the scheme ever since.
Citroën C4 Picasso 1.6D, as it allowed a rear facing turn in space specialist seat to fit and carry his buggy. That suffered a hand break fault, even after a recall fix and we never got it back or find out the results of the investigation.
My son then required a specialist wheelchair and a lot of medical equipment so we moved to a Vauxhall Vivaro WAV.
At the end of that lease, his chair had changed again and we have had a Pug Boxer with tail-lift for over seven years.
Currently waiting on delivery of a specially adapted VW Crafter with internal hoisting and changing table. We are incredibly greatful to the Motability Charity for offering us this and funding the upfront payment, as it will open up so many more travel opportunities for us as a family. There are so many places around without Changing Space grade toilets, that we have been very limited in our travel.
Currently 9 months into the wait for it to get to the converters, could be that again before it arrives. Still exciting though.
