How many Focus ST owners on here

I have seen a focus st pfl on an '07. I've contacted the owner and he seems genuine enough. It's done 79k. Has fsh though cambelt waterpump hasn't been changed. Should I be worried as I assumed it was 125k/10years whatever comes first. It's priced £4.5k which I feel is reasonable.

View the car later this week so thought I'd ask?

Seems slightly cheap but not suspiciously low. I doubt it’s going to be in great cosmetic condition for that price your normally talking anywhere from 5k-6k for a good 2007 with maybe slightly lower miles.
Most you see for sale haven’t had the Cambelt,Aux and waterpump job done as most owners seem to try and avoid paying the £400 for it. I had mine done at 75k because it was 10 years old so if you buy it factor in the cost for that.

Never really been bothered about cosmetics much. I prefer the running of the car as that's the important bit to me lol.

I’m changing the cambelt and water pump in mine next week and it’s only on 37k miles but it’s now 7 years old and I believe the manual says 60k or 6 years? so technically I’m late! I ought to have done it last year really but it was on only 26k then.

Though mine is Volvo C30 T5, so same platform and engine but not sure if the ST is any different. Or the Volvo service schedule is stupidly early for some reason.

Seems strange that it should be so early on the Volvo when it’s 10yrs/125k on the Focus  everything’s the same under the bonnet. How much have u been quoted? Or You doing it yourself?

Actually you are right, although I’m getting conflicted information online still, but it seems it’s 10 yrs or 108k.

I might leave it a year or 2 at this rate, although a part of me is inclined to get it over done with as it’s no harm doing it a couple of years early? I wouldn’t wait until the 10th year, probably do it at 9.

But I read or got the 60k/6yrs somewhere as I recall having the conversation with the Volvo specialist last year and he said I could wait a year to do it.

Quick question on a MK2 st225. Am I right in saying 1st and 2nd gear only boost upto just after quarter. 3rd gear and above over half and settle at half? Is boost range from 2-5k or 3-5k? Thanks

Sounds about right for the turbo dial. It’s limited in 1st&2nd gear but I think modding sorts that problem out if u remap etc it will go into the red in most gears.
Should feel the turbo from about 2k upto about 5.5-6k then it drops off on standard.
Have u test driven one have u? What did u think?

I have sort of taken a punt on one which I mentioned and deem it to be reasonable. There are a few issues I'll go into if I purchase it. They're nothing major in my eyes as mechanically it seems sound and the paperwork backs it up.

It was a bit weird driving it at first as I'm so used to diesel shove at low rpm it felt bit flat early on. Though you could feel the torque and see the Speedo go up but no noticeable shove in first and second gear. Initially I thought boost solenoid needed doing until I got to third. The boost needle seems to go up a tad slowly then I expected in the gears from Low revs around 2k at WOT. Though once it picked it did hold.

No clutch slippage either. The noise is nice, though the car hasn't made me go wow. I think some tuning and exhaust would change that.

Interior is nice. No back rest issues and everything works as it should.

Already spoke to some tuners about block mods. Rather get it done for peace of mind as the cambelt/waterpump is due on it. I did factor this into price as the first thing id do.

The car didn't exhibit any funny noises and upon inspection it had been stood for 40 mins prior. Engine was stone cold as it was a very cold day. Opened oil cap it was clean no mayo or such. Down in the engine it seemed fine. Oil level was just a little under max. Oil was a nice goldenbrown.

Coolant was level and no hiss upon opening with no smoke at rear. Just condensation. No oil in exhaust either.

So I'm happy with the car though the weekend will help me decide a lot better.

Sounds a decent enough example. Is it an ST1,2 or 3? As you want xenon headlights and Sony sound system at least or even better the ST3 with the full leather interior.
The power delivery is more progressive and smooth in the Focus you don’t really get that instant shove even though it has the same amount of torque as most diesels. Although a simple remap to 270bhp and loads more torque will solve that :D

It's an st3. The chap who owns it clearly has had a lot of love for it. Though now he's getting rid I think he needs the money asap so had skimped on a 2 things which he mentioned himself though he is getting them done for me. I rather save the headache of doing them.

My only worry is nearest date so far for block mod is in march. The cambelt will now be around 11 years old. Though car is still way before the ford mileage and there are no funny noises. I'll just have to take it easy I guess.

Knowing my luck the tensioner will go and I'll have a bad experience.

Yeah the boost is limited in first and second gear, it should then boost to just over half way on the gauge in higher gears on a standard car and in to the red on a mapped car.

A remap really does make a big difference and is well worth doing IMO.

The Mountune MP260 made a big difference to my mk2. I think they still have the boost limited in 1st and 2nd but it makes huge improvements to the overall power curve.

Why did the mountune upgrade only produce 260 when it had other mods to go with the remap? A simple remap from Collins is supposed to take it to 265 and Revo claim 270 tested on a rolling road to back it up and that’s without a performance exhaust or intercooler etc which the mountune upgrade included did it not?

It does that, when I returned mine to stock I honestly thought it was broken and nearly called the guy back to say he'd knackered something. Turns out that they are actually that lazy as standard!

A remap and quickshift kit are the two main mods I'd suggest. Going back to the standard gear shift was another thing that horrified me, the throw is so long!
