How many Focus ST owners on here

Hi guys, bit of a technical question for you. My mrs has a mk 3 st and she said its making a grating noise when turning right but only when cold-it seems to disappear when it gets warm. Any ideas?

Cheers

Anyone had a problem with the stereo? A mates got a prob where every day he gets a black screen saying performing routine maintenance, sometimes more than once a day, ford dont have a clue its been reset numerous times and software reloaded/ updated but still the same.

I have had it once in 12 months.

I decided on changing the panther black ST-3 one for an ice white ST-3. 2010 ex-demonstrator, has every option available on it (nav, reversing camera, lux2, sunroof).

Oh, and 40k on the clock.

I've not had that problem but have had some issues with my Sync 3.

Which version of the nav have you got?

I've heard stories on the FocusST forum of Ford changing some of them if the car is in warranty (possibly for Sync4). Apparently the only way they can get it to go off is to turn off the ignition, open door, close door and start again. Might be worth calling by a dealership to see if it's something they'll change/upgrade for you.

Mine is in for a service next week so they're going to look at it.

There's a few software updates which others on the forum have said sorted their problems so I'm hoping it'll sort mine too.

You can reset the Sync 3 without turning the car off - press and hold the track forward button (bottom left of the volume dial) and volume dial together for about 10 second.

Going to look at a May 2017 ST-3 this weekend, at a Ford dealership. £21k and roughly 6k miles.

Decent price?
To think my ford dealer only offered me 16k for my 11 month old ST-3 and it had under 5k on the clock as a trade in against a brand new RS

I’m giving the thought of driving an ST as a daily some serious thought - am I mad?

The mpgs don’t bother me, and I do circa 300 miles a week at present. If I was to pick up an un-molested Mk2.5 ST2/ST3, would I be in for lots of smiles, or a world of pain?

I used a mk2 as a daily for years. It was fine. It wont be cheap to run at 300 miles a week though.
Yeah I didn’t think it would be, although I’ve never owned a car which has done over 40mpg so from a fuel perspective it won’t come as a surprise.

I won’t be making a decision immediately, due to change in jobs in around 10 weeks which could see me move further away which wouldn’t be ideal, but on current mileage it’s doable. Will keep an eye out for some close by with a view to test driving - they seem like a lot of fun, much more fun than my current shed!

Try a mk7 Fiesta ST instead. I went to one of those after and it is more fun. It's almost as quick but costs half as much to run :)

40mpg is one thing but low 20s is quite another... I had 2 ST2s.. did 100k in the first within 4 years.. never saw north of about 28mpg

It did somewhat start falling apart at the end too, turbo went, drive shaft went, oil sprung a leak, air con sprung a leak etc.. even the seat came off its brackets

No idea if that was me beating the thing but for context I've had a 1 series now for about 120k miles with nothing meaningfully going wrong apart from the inlet manifold.

Also you've got 12500 mile fixed service intervals, they eat front tyres and you will get banned.

I loved both of mine... Still miss them and wonder if I could get away with one now.. then remember filling it up every 250 miles with a shudder!

I done 250 miles per week in my Focus ST for 18 months and enjoyed driving it. Made commuting more fun as long as you get some open roads to have a blast on. I never seen more than 27mpg though.
If your just after a cheapish daily im currently driving the Mondeo ST220 which is great for the motorway and still fun to drive. As someone else mentioned the Fiesta ST is a good option if you want better mpg and are spending around 8k or more but if you are tall or do a lot of motorway driving it might not be big enough

Still haven't manage to drive one of these yet. Hopefully going to look at another 2017 ST-3 this weekend - in stealth!

How do they drive compared to the older ST? I had a 58 plate ST-2 (in asbo orange!) for about 2 years and the noise.....oh god the noise! Currently driving a 320d but it's not needed any more now that I'm only doing around 10 miles per day! I also need some new tyres for it and I'm fed up of paying for dam run-flats!!

The sound on the 2l 4 pot is OK, nothing amazing and definitely not like the 2.5l 5 pot but for a 4 pot it's OK.

I haven't driven the 5 pot much but I definitely prefer the 4 pot. The facelift version is better still, it felt more stable and there's definitely less torque steer.
