How many of you will be missing work due to the weather conditions?

Pretty hectic it sounds - it coming down that heavy that way or is it a case of the UK handling bad weather terribly?.

Compared to when I lived up north the south seems pretty quick to shut down!.

It's pretty heavy at the moment. The A36 has some issues with accidents, now I hear the A303 is quickly becoming impassable as well. The problem is tat it is all largely rural, in Salisbury city itself the main roads are open but a bit iffy, I have heard that Southampton itself it on the verge of stopping all bus services, First Bus has already stopped.

I have about a foot of snow on my drive, far more in the drifts. Local weather reckons another 30cm on its way...woohoo.

No they don't, only the countries that are used to it all year round and their vehicles are equipped for it.
Oh and of course they have had plenty of experience driving in it.

Exactly, one of my brothers lives in Canada and they have similar issues with school closures and road closures. They just have massively more infrastructure and processes to deal with it quicker.

Got my big boots on incase roads close, least I can walk home then (had to do that in previous years).

But got into work fine this morning, it's not reached us yet though.

Made it in, just icy here, will snow later so i imagine getting home will be slow.

Employer not fussed on how/if staff get home, during the floods last year there were trains and busses off, I left work around 6 pm got in just after midnight.
Then lost time the next morning when I was 20 minutes late in (metro faults shock) !
Had to make that time up.

Got to work without any issue, given the amount of snow we have here in weston Super Mare at the moment - the amount of iditios I saw driving in the snow and going too fast for the conditions was astounding.

Only work part time and it's cash in hand, if I don't work I don't get paid. Maybe if everybody was paid like this the country wouldn't stop and have a day off every time it snowed :p

My girlfriend works at a secondary school in Fareham. The other two big secondaries closed (and announced it before 07:00 this morning) but hers stayed open.

Only five kids from her class made it in, one of the school buses had a (minor) crash on the way in and they are now trying to work out how to get the kids that made it in home.

It's a complete joke and I think the senior management are going to get it in the neck.

I just popped to Tesco, i don't know what all the fuss is about ;)

Snow started the minute I walked out the door this morning, in lovely slough, was just raining ice on the way in to work. Now snowing proper at work but I'll get home no problem, slow and steady is all thats needed if conditions worsen.

couple inches of snow outside, 20mile/50 minute journey to somewhere harder hit - not worth the risk considering I can work from home via rdp + vpn.
