Oh my oh my, well I think we know what the answer is surely?

But no doubt the result will be disputed, as most people don't know what they're talking about 'obviously', and this will be debated 'til the end of time.

However, knowing the general consensus as far as the public is concerned is good enough for me ;)

It worries me that 30% of us thinks every bites they eat = a single sandwich. So in theory, you would never finish a sandwich if your hand holds on to a part of it.

Not going to read the whole thread so excuse me if this has been said before.

A sandwich can have numerous amounts of bread in it. For example it may have 4 peices of bread and 3 layers of fillings. However it is still 1 sandwich. If you cut it in half its still on sandwich just cut in half.

However you could have two different sandwichs cut in half this would make 4 peices but still 2 sandwichs.

How would a sandwich be finished if you still had part of it in your hand :/

Theres still one sandwich, its just cut in half. Doesnt matter if its cut into four little squares or two traingles.
For those that say it is two.....If you walk into a shop and asked for two sandwiches and they gave you two plastic triangular boxes (standard Sandwich box basically) then what you are saying is that then in fact you would have 4 sandwiches. So infact in asking for two sadnwiches you would have to ask for one. This is wrong.

And why does it have to be a north/south thing? I hate it when it goes there! Who cares where you live shouldnt mean you are stereotyped. ;)

never felt so strongly about a sandwich! lmao :)

cut a cake in half - Half a cake (not 2 cakes)
cut an acre in half - half an acre (NOT 2 acres)
cut a tree in half - half a tree (nope not 2 tree)
cut a car in half - half a car (nor 2 cars - tho it would be nice)
cut a phone in half - half a phone (ditto)
cut a pen in half - half a pen (and nope not 2 pens)

cut a sandwich in half - 2 sandwiches?!?!?! - how the HELL do you come to this conclussion?!?!

Apart from the cake all of those are rubbish examples. Cars, phones etc all have a defined size/need the whole object to remain what they are. A sandwich does not necessarily have a defined size, you can make a sandwich any size you like. i.e. say you make 2 separate small sandwiches and then make one larger sandwich but cut it in half, each half the same size as the two separate smaller sandwichs that were already made. Few people would disagree that the first pair of small sandwiches which were made seperatly are two wholes sandwiches. But it is not so clear cut with the larger sandwich cut in half, even though each half would look and taste exactly like the first sandwich.

The arguement comes in because some people say that because you've cut a whole object in half you have to halves, but other people say that because each half is a sandwich in its own right that you have two whole sandwiches...

It concerns me that about half the people on this thread have difficulty distinguishing between: football, people, phones, trees, land and sandwiches. This is basic education people, come on! :D
