How much has your council tax gone up this year?

Yeah, I'm calling BS on this one... There aint no way a single person can thrown away 70L of general waste per week if they are also using their recycling bins properly.

Just buy a bigger one then. Our council here charge you for extra bins.
Council will only let us buy a bigger bin if we have 5 or more people in the household.

The only thing I don't recycle which council area does recycle are food cans. As many years ago, I cut myself badly on the piece of skin between thumb and forefinger on a can which I have washed out and it was impossible to do any work without the cut reopening and blood pouring out. Since then I am scared of cutting myself like that again.

Plus some weeks last year, I was helping my parents in clearing out my Nanan's bungalow when she moved into the care home. Council doesn't take paper shreddings unless they are hidden in a box - such as a cereal box. Which I don't empty one each week. This is why my bin was over half full most weeks last year. It's probably a third of the bin now.

One thing that households do in my road which takes up more room in their wheelie bin is to use black bin sacks for their rubbish. If they use kitchen bin bags in their bin, it takes up less space.

It makes me cross when you hear councils closing a block of public toilets to save £25k pa when they waste that much plus more on red tape each week.

Our glorious council imported a palm tree from Spain at the cost of £25,000, planted it at the entrance to Torbay, then 3 months later, removed it so construction work could commence on a new road, which had already been planned and approved by the very same council. That palm tree was never seen again.

Incredible :D It's probably in your council leaders garden at this point.

Probably one of their mates "company" doing it.
I'm so cynical about public spending now, when it boggles the mind I assume it's corruption.

Why would anyone do something so wasteful? They wouldn't if it was their own money. Therfore I feel it's probably some corrupt scam.

Not received the letter yet but expecting at least 7.9% which is stated as the average for Somerset.

This is following the emergency budget they managed to squeeze through which, amongst other things, will see the permanent closure of 5 recycling centres across the country - land being sold off (no doubt cheaply to a mate of a mate).

This will of course not lead to an increase in fly tipping.... nope.... not possible...

Expecting our CT to end up being over £1,900 for a 2 bed Semi.

Of course the supposed saving of merging the pre-existing councils into one unitary authority has not materialised which has made everyone question why the actual **** did they bother.

Not had are increase letter as yet, just hope the council aren't going to spend £60,000 on some benches and a stupid sculpture this year!
Plus Lincolnshire has just got £260m from the abandoned HS2 line. Wonder where that'll go?

Wonder how many will go bankrupt next year?

This selling off assets to pay for bankruptcy is a recipe for distater.. Ie bigger rises year on year.

Are there any long term plans to mitigate it? Probably not.

You think MPs are dredging the bottom of the barrel in terms of talent? Local government is a whole new level of people incompetence that should never be anywhere near handling the budgets they do.
