How much has your council tax gone up this year?

3%. They will make our bins collections from weekly (one of a few councils) to fortnightly later this year. The problem lies that the general rubbish bins are the small bins 140L https://www.expresswheeliebins.co.uk/products/140-litre-blue-wheelie-bin. Living alone, my bin is 40-50% full after a week. My mum and dad - both retired. Their bin is two thirds - three quarters full after a week. So using a small bin for fortnightly collections isn't going to work for 90% of the council area. Great example is Christmas/NY when they let us have up to 3 black bags - most households have at least one bag extra.

Either provide us with the standard 240L bins or swap the bins around as our recycling bins are the standard 240L ones. The former will be more expensive to implement and the latter is the cheapest. If the council do nothing, then don't moan to us about more fly tipping and more vermin.

Once we've sold everything... then what..

It's a grim looking future. They'll never get that value of assets back either. Realistically though once everything has been sold off, the councils only option will be increasing council tax at the max they can, and cutting services.

You'll literally get to a point where they won't be doing things like cutting grass in parks etc.

There's no way you can be recycling much if you're half filling your general waste bin after a week as a sole occupant. We barely fill our bin 2/3rds after 2 weeks and that's 2 of us with a dog.

I've actually noticed over the last few months that some things I buy is now fully recyclable. Pack of yogurts - the pots can now be washed out, and a long with the outer packaging can be returned to the supermarket plastic recycling. Pizza - box and base are paper and can be recycled, plastic film goes back to the supermarket plastic recycling.

Pretty much anything that is packaged in the freezer, or fresh salad now comes in a plastic bag that can be recycled.

Yes it is, I’m impacted by this. The fact that no one is being held accountable is laughable. If I had wasted that amount of cash on IT projects and such, I’d be out of a job before I could even pack my things up.

Isn't part of their issue the equal pay compo? I know that's not the full part of their debt, but was likely the icing on the cake.

I don't know enough to comment on what was behind the equal pay claim, but you do have to wonder whether the council were stung with how much they've been made to pay out for it.

Which is quite ironic when these councils spout how much they support this and support that and then come undone buy their own ****-iness.

Yeah it's a big part of the problem. No accountability.

Wonder how it will manifest? . These cuts.
How different will Birmingham feel to those who live there in 2 years time?

Yeah, I'm calling BS on this one... There aint no way a single person can thrown away 70L of general waste per week if they are also using their recycling bins properly.

Just buy a bigger one then. Our council here charge you for extra bins.

Yeah that is crazy.
There's 2 of us and I think we will 50 litres in 1.5 weeks.

Only time our black bin (which isn't a big one) gets full in 2 weeks is if I have to clean out the hens

Its just @cheesefest doing their usual hyperbole to allow them something to moan about... I actually know someone like that and I try and avoid them. I seriously don't know how they manage to drag themselves out of bed in the morning. The type of person that's disappointed to the state of depression that they actually woke up in the morning rather than drift off forever in their sleep

Yeah the only time I ever actually fill the general waste is when I'm actively looking to throw something out as a clear out.
