How often do you upgrade your CPU and Motherboard

Safe to say I've skipped a few generations...
Going from the i7 8086k from that 8pack black Friday deal many, many years ago to what was received today: AMD 7600X as well as 64GB RAM and a new 1TB M.2 drive.

I did order both a 7600x and 5700X3D, but the 57' wasn't going to arrive until November and to be honest I didn't want to wait. The 57' would have been the more sensible option - could have retained existing DDR4 to save additional outlay, but in the end just went the full Zen 4 route.

So 7600X, Asrock B650M HDV/M.2, 64GB 6000MHz RAM, Deepcool Assassin IV cooler and a 1TB M.2.

Couple all that with my 3070 and hopefully that'll give me several more years of 1440p gaming without too much sweat.

Reality is the 8086k was really starting to show it's age; and with a baby now here my gaming time is greatly diminished - when I do get the time I just want things to run well enough to enjoy and not have to mess with settings constantly. This should definitely allow for that - and in several years give me further upgrade paths if needed.

Been reading not much difference between the 7600 and 7600x, ok only a £10-£20 but x is 105W so uses a lot more power for something like 5% faster.

There was only £10 difference in it, plus the added cost of a new cooler. If I find it running too warm, I'll just adjust PBO down to find a sweet spot.
from where?
Was from the rainforest during their recent rainforest day.

Hence I bought the 7600, saved a few quid and intend to swap it out for an X3D at the appropriate time. Is there likely to be another after the 9800X3D on the same socket?

It's hoped that we'll get Zen6 on the current AM5 socket but nothing confirmed as yet.
Thanks, what I'd heard a while back then. I'll wait until we know more, if Zen 6 doesn't come to AM5 I'll jump on a 9800X3D at that point. Should have dropped in price by then too.

Can't go wrong with that. I ran my 6950XT with a 7600 and it was fine.

Unless you already had an am4 board this is the best choice to make

Tick, tick, tock. Graphics card. Then graphics card again. Then CPU and motherboard and the cycle starts again. I have a 5950x which I have no intentions of replacing any time soon, but am considering a replacement for my 3080.

I don't, it's a pure gaming machine but I can't be bothered!!!

if your 1440+ there is gains to be made but there lesser than at 1080 and i assume with a 3080 your at 1440 minimum.
if your at 1080 i would think a 57/5800x3d would be you better gains that adding at new GPU under 4080S

3440x1440p Ultrawide at max 120Hz. I'm just not bothered about chasing numbers and diving into my PC as much as I used to be. I mainly play Apex Legends and it's pretty much pegged at 144Hz.
