How often do you upgrade your CPU and Motherboard

My X470 in my sig is doing really well for the £169 I paid for it, had numerous CPU's in it since 2018..

2700X
3900X
5700X
5800X3D

Will try and wait for Zen 6 now, just waiting to see what the next round of GPU's bring to speed up the rig some more.

The X3D is so so good for fps low's compared to the previous CPU's I've had in this board.

Was planning on missing a CPU generation but seems like I'll be able to miss 2 gens this time :)

I had an i7 7700k back when Zen first released, up from a Phenom II x4. Then upgraded to the 5800X3D. I only do platform upgrades when the performance would be at least 60% better than what I currently have. Same with GPUs, but haven't upgraded my vega as price:performance is still absolutely ridiculous the past few years.

That's a real good run on a single mobo man, with the X3D being the cherry on top! Good for a while yet
Yea in hindsight I should have skipped the 5700X and waited for the X3D but was thinking of power efficiency when cost of living crisis started but it ended up not too bad after getting the X3D for £290 in May 2023 and clawed back £145 from the 5700X sale :)

As for the Mobo.. my MSI X470 Carbon Wifi was £169 from OcUK back in 2018.. the new MSI X870E Carbon Wifi is currently £430 here  What a difference 6 years makes!

Yeah motherboard prices are absolutely whack now, I was lucky a couple of months back and got a 7800X3D/B650E-I Strix/32GB of 6000 DDR5 combo for £500 second-hand. Made the switch from a 13700K only because I was running an XTX, it's a good combo and am happy!

Nice setup there :) When I do upgrade it'll obviously be a Bx50E board now lol which will hopefully have made this current board last me 7 years.. its been a long itch! :D

I was thinking about the uplift from 7xxx series Ryzen to 9xxx series which does not appear to be worth it for gamers yet. but for 5xxxx series owners it might be worth it.

Then I was also thinking how often do people upgrade, each and every time Intel/AMD release or every other or only as and when your system stops doing what you want in a timely fashion.

I have a 5800x/X570 system with 32 GB 3600 DDR4 and for the games I play I am OK, so its been 3 years now.

How about you guys ?
around 2-3 years
its the cadence of generations and usually its just a cpu upgrade as amd offers such support.

Whenever I need it.

At the moment I'm on an 11400, with powerlimits off and gear 1 3600 it's still more than enough for 1070ti & the games I'm playing. When I upgrade that (unless there is a really good deal, then I'm waiting to see what next gen brings), then the cpu will probably end up being a bottleneck so I'll look to upgrade then.
