Our gym is having a competition, how long does it take you to row 1000 metres.

I've never done anything like this before it attempted it, but my time was 3:30.

I don't know if anyone of you have timed yourselves on this particular length, but do it next time you go down to the gym, and post your times!

EDIT

On full resistance.

3:30 is awesome

our gym has a 2 minutes 500m challenge, i thought, easy! so i start off, with a pace of about 1:30 for 500m, after a minute tho the pain sets in and it gets a lot harder, fast

only ever managed just over 2 minutes, so i imagine 4 1/2-5 for 1000m :(

obviously i dont row often, if i was to do it more, id be better, like to think i have the muscles to be able to row a fair amount tho

Thats rubbish! I could do 1:50 when I was 14 and I was tiny, it was probably on an easy setting or something though :p

My best time is 3:42 and I always row on full resistance :D Quitew chuffed with that, though I have never really tried to beat as I barely use the rowing machine anymore, always seems to be the cross-trainer/treadmill and weights of course.

Don't know if I could beat that, maybe I can as I've shifted some fat since then :D

Nice one on 3:30, that is a brilliant time!

I'll have to try rowing again since they have a couple of new Concept 2s in my gym now but last time I tried it was about 3:40 for 1km without going totally flat out. Still completely kills me though even if I'm not trying my hardest. :)

i clocked 3.19 at my last attempt. i had my physio pushing me all the way though, just before i went for my trials. my average 500m time is 1.20 when pushing it, around 1.30/1.35 when pacing myself.

Bah! You lot need to row 10,000 and 15,000 meters!

Not done it for ages but my best times were 10,000 in around 39 minutes and 15,000 in just under an hour.

That was about 4 years ago though. Not done it since due to an ongoing back problem.:(

I do 2000m in just under 8 mins, thats after a 20 minute run as part of my gym routine though. Probably could push for 3:30 for 1000m, but I'm not great with sprints.

I think i'll have another go in about a months or so time (need to give injured arm more recovery time) with a trainer pushing me. All I had the last time i tried were two gormless blokes staring at me while they were lifting weights, well I say lifting, I don't know what they were doing but their technique was awful.

My best 500 time is 1.32 (rowing tryouts + it killed me) and my best 2000m is 7.38, i`ll try a 1000 next time at the gym, its not a distance i do normally.

Neither do, i usually stick to around 5k, but I couldn't help but attempt to challenge the competition at gym :p

the particular test we did was 3mins at consistent 24spm. i did i think 972 metres? im trying to find the sheet they gave me.

they taught me how to do the proper technique etc, after learning that its both easier and a lot harder if that makes sense. the stroke is a lot more fluid, allowing you to breath easier and better but consequently you pull a lot harder.

The guy who runs our gym circuit is a rower, and he's helped me no end since I've started circuits. I used to have the settings wrong, an awkward technique and like most people, used to pull like crazy (over 30 SPM). I now pull harder, but more fluid at about 26/27 I think.
