how to enable crossfire?

well i monitored while playing cod4 for about ten minutes everything is goin ok except the gpu usage its drops down to bottom quite a bit and sometimes for a few seconds,is this normal, cuz i thought in game the gpu usage should be constant??

sorry jakus but i was curious lol, went into cod4 with crossfire enabled but only getting more or less the same fps as a single card 30-50fps:confused: ill switch back to a single card now and then do some monitoring

1 3870 should run that never dropping below vsync (60fps)at Your resolution

If Your getting varying frame rates monitor the cards clocks in riva tuner to see if it's power saving (down clocking)

Ok We need to flash the GFX card bios..You up for that ?

never done it b4 tbh, sounds dodgy lol

You did not tell me about that Game ?

Download this bios :- http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/7887/GeCube.HD3870.512.071210_1.html

First has Your GFX card a normal cooler ?

You need latest winflash from the same place although You may have to Use ATIflash from dos

Pull out The lower card before You do anything
Back up the cards bios first
read the instructions You may need the latest ATItool beta to read Your bios
then try the windows "winflash"

lol,the link you gave me is a different bios ver to my powercolor card or doesnt that matter jakus, and another thing is i dont own a floppy to back up my old bios, or can it be done another way

;) Don't worry about that....would You prefer one that does not fix the problem ;)

So You have a normal cooler Yes ?

You can save the orginal bios in windows but as said you might need to make a boot CD to get to Dos if winflash does not work

right i have downloaded winflash 2.0.0.2 and have downloaded the bin file link ui gave me and the fan on these cards are the flower type http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-079-PC

Ok, Hold one thats the OC version see if You can find it in the bios list at techpowerup and check the details, You are looking for a bios that runs the same clock speed 2d/3d it will stop the card slowing down when ATI's power play thinks there is not enough Load

Quick check, Looks like Powercolour has got up to speed and there are bioses that will do that ( previously only Gecube had a handle on the problem)

So , double check Your bios/clocks ,back up then flash to another Powercolour bios with same 2d/3d clocks, Should be OK with Winflash for this

Looks like You have had enough for the Day then :D

Was going to say, See by not answering My question about what type of cooler the card has we nearly come unstuck

You Know what You need to look for and do regarding the bioses and we can pick this up tomorrow afternoon, hopefully You will have some good news to report by then.

Just for your information, I have the exact same cards. Checked mine and they are using the 7.5 version bios.

GPU-Z 0.1.7 shows the bios as version "Ver010.075.000.002.000000", with clock speed of 796/1170, default of 800/1170.

I've saved off an image of the bios, so let me know if you want a copy.

Shame the fan is on full whack all the time though - maybe a later bios will fix that.

Well it's looking like the Card might not be downclocking then it's easy to comfirm by looking in the CCC at core speed.

I Believe the fan on Your cards connects straight to a 12v rail with a 2 pin connector a simple inline resistor/fan controller will do the Job so it's outside of any onboard bios/controller to be able to control its speed

yeah i checked this morning and the clocks seem fine with ccc and rivatuner, everytime i minimised the game to check the rivatuner the gpu would go to bottom so it all seems ok jakus. Yep sorry about yesterday, had long day and dozed off lol:D

im now getting an improved 3dmark06 score ...crossfire disabled =10414 and crossfire enabled =12877 so over 1000 better on each score than yesterdays 8998 and 11442

Be intresting to see if you could get that CPU up some more ;) providing You do not increase the vcore You will not risk it at all , I would think 3.3-3.5ghz should be possible, also try the PCIex bus up to 110 but just to see if it helps the bandwith on the second card @X4 but just as a test don't leave it there.

Other than that are You basically happy with game performance over Your last set up ?
