*** How to obtain a bike license ***

It's over.... had my third lesson today. He had to teach 3 people today for the CBT, as the guy I booked with didn't realise what I was going for.

I felt okay juat on and ride around the car park again. Then they got the cones sorted for the pretend road. I was messing this up all over I felt. By this time though I felt very tired and useless. So after a while, i parked the bike and had a lay down in the back of the van, thinking all negatively. The thing he got us to do before it was time to leave was emergency stops. First time I skidded the bike, two more goes where I wasn't applying enough front brake, then I seemed to manage that.

So got back to the office and was offered the chance on the road. I didnt know if I should have accepted or not, but I took the chance anyway. The actual riding on the road wasn't all that bad. My Uturn on the road was complete, but bith times a little shaky, forgot to turn indicator off a good bit and on a roundabout when changing lanes, I didn't do the liifesaver. The actual riding seemed fine and it didn't look or feel like I was out of control.

Had to go through a school area where kids was just coming out, we took a 60mph road and I didn't realise so kept to 30. It's a back road and it's like broken gravel so nit best place for a ride. I was coming up behind a parked buss, who then indicated to move out so I slowed down for that. Was fun really.

I did have a time where it was like a triangle roundabout, I was told to go down, turn the triangle roundabout and heat back up to the main roundabout. My first attempt I kind of panicked. As I turned in, I could see a car coming towards us. I wasn't sure if they was going straight ahead ot slowing down for me, so I sort if panicked with the brake on what to do and the bike started tilting. Was too heavy so I had to lay it down and pick it back up :(the guy even rolled his window down to see if I was okay, so that was nice of him.

So in the end I was passed :D he originally said he would pass me, I then asked him not to pass me so I could do that again. And finally after finding out my options, I asked him to sign it and before I go out and get a bike, I'd like to return for more ride outs, so that's exactly what I'm doing.

Road riding is easy compared to the carpark!

Well done mate :D

The slow speed stuff in the car park is the hardest bit by far, I remember doing my CBT (which was only a year and 3 months ago!) it was a lot to take in, the road ride was so much easier as in the real world you have a lot more time to change gear, lifesaver, indicate etc.

I haven't had my full licence a year yet and have just done over 800 miles in 2 days through the welsh valleys and mountains (see my thread) so once you get past the initial learning it'll all come a lot easier.

The 650cc bikes are so heavy. Really difficult to perform the manual handling element. Also the seats are quite high if you are below average height.

CBT + Day 1 done. May have to switch down to A2 licence but the 500cc bikes they use aren't too different to the 650cc bikes.

I just want to ride the lighter ~300cc bikes after I pass dammit.

Which way are you trying to manual handle it? The easiest way is straight back, full u turn with left lock and then straight back in to the other bay.

Trying to do a backwards u turn in one go is risky IMO if you're struggling.

Yeah there isn't much difference between a 160kg bike and a 200kg bike, they're both ****ing heavy and easy to drop! It's all about technique IMO. If you're having to wrestle the bike you're doing it wrong.

aslong as you keep the bike moving you don't notice the weight of it,its only when you turn during u turns ect and you don't give it enough gas or lean it too much the weight of the machine will start to pull you over

id take a heavy machine over a light one,esp when it comes to braking from a high speed, you'll find the lighter machines tend to skit along the tarmac rather than grip and slow down unlike a heavier machine would

Thanks worked like a charm.

Failed my mod 2 this morning, bad judgement call on how close the car behind was when I changed lanes.
Failed within 5 minutes of leaving the test center and I knew it all the way through the rest of the test.

bad luck, how soon can you retake it?

need to relax and chill before you do it,but its easier said than done

My instructor put my name down for the next available one which was 23rd July but he's got 4 more booked in for the next few weeks pending them passing their theory and mod 1 so if any of them cancel I'll be first up to jump in.

That's it I just flapped wanted to get back in the LH lane and rushed it, oh well.

Mod One passed with no minors, just waiting for a date for Mod Two.

Wolverhampton is a bloody nightmare during commute times. Half the people there don't even seem to use their indicators on roundabouts, its like an episode of wacky races.

And people like me cutting people up on my mod 2 :p:D
