*** How to obtain a bike license ***

Congrats!!!

@JunglistE, 3 bikes I wanted have sold the next day in the morning, my viewing was in the afternoon... You'll find another bike ;)

I guess! But now I know i'm actually 'able' to ride one makes me want it even more. Patience was never a strong point of mine :P

How far is too far for a new rider? I was really drawn to that one as it was in Bristol... But there are some beautiful bikes outside of London. Is a 130 mile trip too much for a fresh out of the womb rider?

Congrats to both of you, JunglistE - you're a 'real' biker now ;)

Go and have a look round Fowlers if you're anywhere near - don't buy one from them but sit on everything :D

Yeah opposed to that guy who just lingers arounf the biker chat sections like a bad smell :D

Haha my instructor said something similar about them. They seem to have a bad rep amongst bikers!

but yeah, as for the journey on one hand i think it'll be fine. I've done plenty of much longer drives but that's sat in a comfy seat. I know that these can be uncomfortable and I worry about my back and my wrists.

I used to live just down the road from them so went in before I'd even done a CBT and sat on a few bikes - they have lots of stuff on show so they're good for that, but for other things.... pass :p

Okay so just got back, while my riding is far better, my Instructor said there are a few things I still need to work on, and he thinks I can make it.

One of them if oddly right junctions, the spacing to the white line. I assumption is that I get close enough so my bars don't cross it? Another is roundabouts. I keeping pulling off them too close to the white line, so I think all I need to do with that is pull off earlier.

I was a bag of nerves to my MOD1, turned up late, I stalled it twice on the way down like 5 mins outside of the test centre, then it wouldn't start. Managed to get there in the end, luckily the examinar was the same one who did my MOD1 last time. I have a feeling he will be doing my MOD2, strict but fair.

I am not really sure about tomorrow though, as much as I want to pass, and I'll give everything I have to do it, I can't stop thinking that I'm not where I should be.
Congrats JunglistE! I hope I am join the 'Real Bikers' club tomorrow.

When you're turning right, you should be about a foot from the centre line and a few inches from the end of the junction, protects you then incase someone cuts the corner. :)

You'll be fine bud! I'll echo what everyone else says. The most nervous part of the test is sitting in the room and waiting for your name to be called out. Once you're on the bike and on the road I bet your nerves will be out the window and just do what you've done so far.

I'd wish you luck but I know there's no point. If I was able to pass then so will you for sure. Only a few hours away from that SV now!

I'm going to be ordering my helmet tonight/tomorrow! My friend is going to ride my bike back for me as I don't have my own yet.

Thanks JunglistE and Clov!s.

One last thing really roundabouts. There is a chance that I will end up on a massive roundabout in Nottingham. It is three lanes, and I would need to take the third exit.
Am I correct in thinking that:
Steady approach, and going when clear, with a right indicator on, along with an mirror checks before getting on it.
Once on it, before the exit I wish to take indicate left, with a left blind spot check and move across. If the left hand lane is clear, would I move into the left hand lane before coming off the roundabout if there is not a car present there? Or would that be considered wrong?

If a car is present, on the exit I wish to go to, use the right hand lane as the left hand lane is in use, or would that be considered wrong? Left lifesaver before exiting a big roundabout is certain though.

I might be over thinking this one, but my only real concern is roundabouts.

You would want to ease yourself towards the outer parts of the roundabout rather than swing across lanes. You should try to avoid being in a situation of being blocked. You can do this with signals, and speed. I don't mean going faster, I mean either going faster or slowing down to get around a car that might be there.

Anther thing to look out for with roundabouts are filter lanes. Sometimes the left hand lane leading to the aroundabout is first exit only. If you pick this to go straight on you will fail.

How did you get on?

Failed.
I was on 4 minors, in the last 5 mins the examinar asked me to turn right, was in the right position, and I couldn't see the right turn as it was quite hard to see. Tram lines only directly in front, and in panic I turned left...

I noticed where I needed to go as I did it, and failed due to it.

Gutted. If it wasn't for that I would have passed with 4 minors.
My next one is on the 9th of March, with a full day on the 8th beforehand.

I'm mad because it was such a trivial and stupid mistake. I now know that I can pass, and what to expect. But am really mad at myself for doing something so damn stupid. We went through Nottingham city centre as well, and have never been there, nor seen so many cars in my life, and didn't fail on the massive roundabouts there.

Just in a 20 degree junction, aside a tram only lane. :(

Sorry to hear that :( You'll get it next time.

My first time out on a big bike I did something similar. I was told to go left, but started indicating right, tried to correct and cut into another lane on a roundabout. I got an earful from my instructor for that, telling me it would have been a fail - I wont do it again :D.

Unlucky :(

Next time, don't worry about going the wrong way, just do it safely and you shouldn't even get a minor for it.
