I dont know if you live in the UK or the US but in this country (UK) if you shoot or stab a burgler/intruder and he dies then with our court system there is a good chance and there are many coses where you may get done for manslaughter.
No, there aren't. It's something that happens very rarely and you wouldn't be done for manslaughter unless you used a weapon that you had planned to use beforehand (and not necessarily even then).
You could count the number of people done for manslaughter in the UK in a defence scenario on your fingers and they went so far over the top into unreasonable force that it was like a horror film plot. A real example off the top of my head - a captured intruder was beaten, thrown into a pit and set on fire. "in defence".
I think defence laws in the UK are going too far. We now have a legal precedent that it's OK to gather some friends, hunt someone down and make a very determined effort to beat them to death in revenge. I'd say that was medieval, but they were trying to be more civilised at least as far back as the time of Alfred the Great.
