I can't see the Monarchy lasting.

We all know Charles opinions, and Williams, and Harrys.

None of those issues are compatible with the bulk of the Monarchy supporter base.

I remember a time many years ago when some of the Monarchy supporters were putting their hopes in to Harry. If only they had a crystal ball!

if we do get rid of them what would they keep ?? not everything they have is there's .. i'm hoping Charles is the last .. there really is no need for them anymore ..
I'm sure there would have to be negotiation. It would be a delicate balance. We would still have a royal family. But they would be de-coupled from the legal system.

IF we had a President I think that vote should purposely be away from any political votings. We might have to make a rule that they can't have been a member of a political party for so many years ago. Their election as to be someone the non-political people can get involved with.

legal and financial.. no more robbing the serfs they have enough of there own money ..they can provide there own security and the upkeep of what lands and buildings they get ..

Certain properties actually belong to the family and they obviously keep those. The Duchy of Cornwall and Duchy of Lancaster should revert to the state. The Crown Estate should all go to the treasury.

It is possible to set an exclusion in primary legislation on "persons disqualified".

However, no party will support legislation that fetters their power. I can tell you this with some authority!

Not exactly shocking in a right leaning forum such as this one.
I am surprised at the difference though. I would've assumed it would've been much closer.

I'd understand if they had some personable redeeming qualities but they don't even have that. They're just some dusty old aristocratic family that we subjects are supposed to fawn over, adore and place on a pedestal because........... ? The Queens death really made me realise how out of touch I am with it all. TV presenters being ordered to look forlorn and the public acting as if they've lost their actual grandmother, it was all a bit much.

i am no huge royalist and i cant say i would be outraged either way.

however over all i am confident the royal family are a net benefit to our country, i think they bring in a lot of tourism, i think individually they have good causes they promote and that they are decent ambassadors for us abroad.
its not like they are "a proper" monarchy with the power to act in the traditional way anyway

(although honestly right now i would take King Charlie running the country as a proper monarchy over our current government, but i realise that was not the question in the OP ;)

you will find it's the buildings and guards that bring in the tourists .. it's not like anyone sees them much .. and they still have there sticky fingers in our parliament deciding if a law would hurt them .. then have it changed ..

We've been effectively stagnant for the last decade and all this nostalgia/Nimbyism BS is clearly holding this country back.
Stagnant? We pulled ourselves out of the EU on not much more than a whim, with zero plans, and we're suffering economically.

I wouldn't call that stagnant! I think the UK has been anything but stagnant over the last ten years - it's just all been movement in the wrong direction.

please dont remind me. My wife and i are in the fortunate position to (hopefully) be able to weather just about what ever happens politically in this country (which isnt to say we have not felt it!) , but i fear for those less fortunate than us.......... and god help our kids generation.

Oh we made the choice, cool! That's alright then.

Three prime ministers in three years is the opposite of stagnant - it's instability.

Please don't pin Brexit impacts on Covid, it just ceases to be a debate at this point.
