** HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook @ £314.99 inc VAT **

What about the 11.6" Acer Aspire 1410 (AS1410)

I've seen this for around £379, uses the intel celeron processor 1.2ghz, 2gb ram, 250gig hd, gma4500m graphics (can do 1080p video), windows 7 home premium and weighs only 1.4kg

it looks like a beefed up netbook, with more of everything, with a great price and performance.

is anyone considering getting it?

i'm torn between this and the mini or the n510

the one i'm referring to is the latest refresh of the series.

there aren't many reviews out there, and i'm still waiting for vids of it running hi def vids and hi def youtube.

i hope it can, flash 10.1 wont be coming out till next year, plus this isn't running an atom, its a dual core chip, so its got some extra grunt (not much, but enough i hope)

just have to wait and see

wont most netbooks ship with windows 7 starter too, there are some limitations, i'd get bored of the same wallpaper, but there will probably be a registry hack for it.

i wont have to commit to buying something till early december, so i've a month to see how things play out with all 3 :)

Just phoned HP and they told me a Windows 7 version (with N280) IS coming out in the UK, but they don't know (or wont tell) when. Don't know what to do now! Argh!

Looks like it's just a waiting game :( Would much prefer the little bit more bandwidth to juice of the n280 + it's supposed to be slightly more power saving according to some sites.

i think no win7 hardware accel from gfx is also a problem with the Ion LE chipset:/

why did they do that?!

i read an article on the reg from about 6 month ago they say the ion will be used to sell win7 netbooks with shiny output... but infact its completely not. they removed the feature and brought out the model just days before win7 lands?!

well... it depends... le has no dx10....win7 uses dx10 to accelerate its GUI...(or something like that)

ergo its gonna look like vista basic mode (despite having the best gpu known to netbooks)... which is odd really...

the price booggles though its so low for HP..

its like they had some containers full of 270's and ion le's and thought... ahh bag it.. lets just dump em out there.. together!

Yeah, basic ;)

Sorry it's a little out of focus, phone has fixed focus in video mode.

Windows 7, like Vista, requires a DX9 compatible card for Aero. Therefore it will work fine on LE. And it does as the video above proves :)

The actual difference between the LE and standard is DX10 support, but as it doesn't really have the power to run most modern games it's not really of any concern. The only reason to wait would be to get Win 7 pre installed, which I don't care about, or to get the N280 which would be a little (tiny) bit faster. But you will pay for it. I didn't think it was worth it, so....

*waits for Mr DPD man*
