** HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook @ £314.99 inc VAT **

They dont price match as far as im aware, and certainly not if the other place doesnt actually have stock. Shame have asked a few times myself.

In day to day use, web browsing, video playback etc. you're unlikely to notice it much. However the CPUs (particularly the dual core ones) are quite a bit quicker.

I might take a look out for some 13z reviews then and see performance wise, I want something portable but I'm not sure a net book even this HP on is going to be powerful enough for me.

I looked at the 13z on Dell's site yesterday and the spec sheet we're all being shown is not the base price, it's almost £600 with the c2d cpu, 3/4GB ram and the nvidia gfx option as well as higher cap battery.

I'd much rather have the HP and save almost £300 odd.

For the £30 it costs it's a worthwhile upgrade, quicker to boot, start programs etc.

I've got a Samsung N510 with 1GB and Windows XP. Once booted I have over 700mb memory still free so I don't really see how an extra 1GB is going to make programs load faster. Most netbook users aren't going to be having lots of programs open at once and if they did the atom processor wouldn't be able to cope anyway.

A quicker hard drive would help though with load times.

Maybe with Windows 7 going to 2GB would help on a netbook but with Windows XP I don't see the need.

I was talking about Windows 7 as I'm running Pro on it, I imagine most people would upgrade to W7.

More RAM makes a difference because Windows 7 makes better use of it than XP, storing often used files in the RAM making programs quicker to launch and more responsive for example.

Yeah with Windows 7 it probably is worth it.

Not sure the upgrade to Windows 7 from XP on a netbook is worth the extra expensive though. But I will probably do it myself before the price goes up for Windows 7.

I paid £27.99 for a 2gb stick of PNY 1066mhz.

Edit: Price has gone up to £35 now but I've seen Elixir for £28 and 'major brand' 1333mhz stuff on the 'bay for £27 inc.
