i like that Gadget nice find!

would a SSD work/fit on a 311c ? can you just take the old drive out and plug in the the SSd or ?

would any ssd work or ?

SSD would work, as I was gonna shove one in myself. Trouble is, the Mini311 interface is only SATA1 and FSB is rather low, so I dunno an SSD would make that much of a difference?

I have a spare OCZ Vertex Turbo 60Gb lying around, I may just try it one day :)

Oh and, thx for the cool gadget mrk! :)

Hi guys, this is gonna sound really stupid but got my ram upgrade through a couple of days ago although i have had my 311 for a week now. I used the 311 with 1gb on windows 7 for a few days and it was fast.

Put the 3gb in and i swear it feels slower! Straight away it felt more sluggish. How can that happen lol.

Some of you will have put your ram upgrades in straight away so will not notice any difference. But anyone else use it at 1gb first?

Kind of RAM did you put in?

i have not done any benchmarks but i have been saying how quick my 311 was with 1gb. I put an extra 2gb in and i instantly felt the speed suffer.

Not had time to really investigate. Maybe its just my brain.

OK so the results are as follows:

The ram built into the 311c is rated 11-15-15-63-63-2T (According to CPU-Z)

The ram upgrade module I bought from OcUK was Kingston branded and rated 7-7-7-??-??-?T

The Everest memory benches are:

-- Stock ram --
Read: 4100MB/s
Write: 2818MB/s
Latency: 104.6ns

-- Kingston RAM installed --
Read: 2270MB/s
Write: 2377MB/s
Latency: 138ns

So it seems with 3GB ram this thing does slow down - I guess it's to do with the ram modules not running in sync at the same speed and having to slow down due to having odd sizes?

The memory read figure is most concerning, we're seeing a drop by pretty much half just by adding the extra ram module!

Does anyone have a spare 1GB module they're willing to lend me to test with? :)

I suppose balancing the ram modules with another 1gb stick instead of a 2gb might be the way forward like you said.

I knew there was a difference, thought i was going mad lol

I hope this problem has something to do with mixing & matching modules, else the samsung people knew something and decided not to have 1GB onboard and an extra slot. Please keep up updated, thanks!

Hmm it actually runs better with 1GB as opposed to 3GB - I think it's certain now that 2GB is best suited to this not 3GB due to the odd ram size pairing.

I'm tempted to sell this netbook however as I've just seen previews of the new Sony VAIO X series of "netbook" and OMG they are thin.....they will cost a lot more but I am getting some extra funds this month from a wedding so could put that toward something like the new Sony VAIO models!

Firefox/Everest etc load a bit faster, Windows boots to desktop and loads items faster with just the 1GB yeah. But then it should do being 50% better at memory read using stock ram!
