** HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook @ £314.99 inc VAT **

Wow thanks, I was looking at the Asus 1008HA but the 10" screen put me right off, also the Sony X series at £1200 seemed a bit...much LOL.

I have 1008HA; it's pretty awesome for ultimate portability - 1inch thick and 1kg weight. I'll be taking it for a trip around Florida for 3 weeks on Thursday.

How good is the CPU on the 1201N do you know? I know it's the Atom 330 dual core but is it a proper dual core this time instead of the HT style "dual core" on N270/N280 etc ?

I'm just reading up on it now. It's a proper Dual Core chip :
With two cores and support for Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology, it appears to the system as four cores (as shown below).

It's not a new chip though, it was launched in December 2008.

According to info online the 1201N is expected to give around 6-8 hours battery?

Aye on the above it looks like it's 2 CPUs combined instead of 2 cores on one die - it seems to be 2x N230 cpus under one roof?

Hmm, Well I'm interested, the extra L2 cache and actual dual core capability should mean this is an even better option for light gaming but more importantly I hope it's priced decently!

The Asus 1201N is listed as €510 on an Italian website but that comes with 3GB RAM and a 320GB HDD.

Direct conversion is £455 but I'd be betting on it being a bit cheaper than that if Asus wants to reclaim the netbook segment as competition is hot at the moment.

I hope it had to do with the specific module and it is not a design bottleneck :(

No manufacturer produces "compatible" modules officially yet?

RAM Problems

A week ago I posted on here saying that I'd bought a 2gb stick of RAM from Crucial UK (their recommended one), and after putting it in my mini 311, it didn't seem to recognise it - I just presumed the stick was faulty and sent it back for a new one.

The new one came yesterday and after installing, its still not recoginising it in the "System" page of Control Panel - Could it be a problem with my computer or am I doing it wrong??

Would really appreciate some advice as its quite annoying! I'm realy hoping its not my computer as although it runs Win 7 ok, it could do with being a bit snappier when I run things like MS Office, which isn't that often but would still be nice!

Thanks!

Emma
