** HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook @ £314.99 inc VAT **

However the 1100C models (not sold here) ship with 7200 rpm drive and had "N" networking?

Compaq Mini 311c-1101SA PC

Whats the major reason to move from 1gb to 2gb? oh and is any brand acceptable for the faster 1333 stuff?

Prob is I only and got to use N in the home.

So for abit more migrate be worth it.

What's performance like under 1gb with xp or 7?

I have the the Wind U100 PLUS right now, its fine under XP although because of XP it does start to get slow at times. I havent tried Win7 on it, need to get an external DVD drive for it.

Am using the net book atm to post ,had it around 6 months now i think.W7 was put on within days of getting it also changed the hdd so as to keeep the original os(7200 hdd and wireless n ,and blutooth as standard on mine)
now have a ssd and 3 gb of mem
i would have to say that the upgrade of the hdd to ssd was a bit of an impulse, not noticeing a lot of speed increase over the 7200 hdd to be honest, making the net book into an ion based gfx over the ion le did make HD files a lot better though

Do you remember how 1gb performed tho?

I am tossing up the 20 gbp differnce between the N and non N version, - do you think thats made a difference?

Sorry added the extra ram about 2 hours after i booted up for the first time
I am going to overclock the CPU to 1.8Ghz so which memory should I get? 1066Mhz or 1333Mhz? 26th Jul 2010 08:24
I got the 1333 but have not really oc it properly (got scared,as a LOT of people were making bricks)no cmos clr on these. But with the extra stick of ram `apparently`if you set the oc too high you can remove the extra stick and it will default (myhpmini.com has detailed info)

Cool, I'm gong to get 1333 aswell. I want to overclock to at least 1.8Ghz using AsRock OCTuner in Windows. I found my MSI Wind U100 performs a lot better at 1.8Ghz

Hear some rumours about 2gb (3) having problems.

I was only getting this machine for word, internet etc so barely needed anypower but now can see it does some gaming and OC.... has convinced me to upgrade lol.

Got my 311c 1020SA yesterday and I really like it. But I've got some noob questions, how I can switch off Bluetooth but leave WLAN on? When i try to switch Bluetooth off through the HP Connection Manager it switches the WLAN off too :(

Also where the recovery partition? All I see is one large C:\ partition, what if I want ot restore the netbook to factory defaults?

Going to upgrade to 3GB ram tonight.

Dont think you can, but why would you want to? Bluetooth will use next to no power i guess?, recovery partition will be hidden :) you can get into it by pressing one of the function keys i think at boot?

Can I ask how people are getting on with the screen size on this? GF cracked the screen on her 15" dell last week and I am considering something with a little less "heft" so that when she picks it up by the screen (sigh) there is a) less likely to be any damage b) less expensive when the damage does happen.

Screen size is fine for me, I had a 10.1" wind and what was just too small. Yes there is a big difference between 15.4 and 11.6 but depends on what she uses it for. I would only get a 15.4 if I used it to watch HD movies and gaming.

It "bugs" me having the bluetooth on lol I cant disable it in Windows XP either, only uninstall it.

thanks, elrasho - if they made an OS that could only do facebook, that would suit her fine, so I will definitely consider this one. I would agree that 10.1" is too small, but at 11.6" it is worth considering. Thank you :)
