** HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook @ £314.99 inc VAT **

After reading this thread I understand he following: OCTuner only OC the CPU, I need to use the Hacked BIOS in order to OC the RAM.

I managed to get to 1.8Ghz with an FSB at 150Mhz using OCTuner. As for the RAM I want it to run as close to 1200Mhz as possible, what settings should I enter into the BIOS?

EDIT: Im putting in a 2GB 1333Mhz DDR3 stick in tonight

Will you tell me how it goes, ive just ordered mine but not the ram.

their is extensive guides and configs for bios at myhpmini

Looking forward to your write up - also if it makes a big speed bump. mines being delivered tommorow.

Although an offer thread this does really seem to be the biggest netbook thread so I'll just put my question here for now. I've used a NC10 before and it handles standard video, didn't try 720p or above footage or actual games but apart from that it worked smoothly.

How does the NC10 compares to other netbooks, or any which are about to be released?

Can any netbooks handle games from 2000, UT2003 or TrackMania? (what about minimum settings) 720p or 1080p video with the new VLC build or certain settings, youtube 720p? Or are there any laptops I should be looking at?

Yes, just go on youtube and search 311c gaming and see the latest games running!

Wow that is amazing. I saw a mention in this thread of a new netbook being released soon-ish with better hardware, I'm not inclined to search through twenty pages does anyone know more about that?

The new ION chips are on the way but will push the price back up to 400 gbp, - which is approaching full laptop price, so while these are cheap, its worth getting them

I put in the 2GB 1333 stick and havent really seen an improvment, boot time is still 3 minutes or so. The mini itself is fine, keys are nice to use although the mouse pad is the worst Ive used, way too much friction.

I played some SF4 at 640*480 everything on low and runs at 60fps. I've overclocked the CPU to 1.8Ghz using OC Tuner and the memory also goes up to 300Mhz in CPUZ (so thats 900Mhz as its DDR3). I havent even tried a 720P HD video yet, spent too long updating XP and copying over my files.

Im going to try Dawn of War GOTY tonight aswell as XIII, oh and use Everest to see what my read/write DDR3 speeds are like. So far I'm liking the netbook, battery has gone from 100% to 65% and I have been using it a lot. Although sometimes it tends to become a bit unresponsive for example I would double click on Firefox and nothing would happen for 5 seconds and then it will begin to load, whats that about?

Mines being delivered today.

I suspect a bios OC to 2GHZ is what delivers performance and i suspect only a SSD will heal the delays in loading times.

Their seems according to the HPmini Forum a "sweet point" the machine reaches were everything is very responsive.

Looking on youtube people have got that level of responsiveness by OC, turning down lots of uneccesary settings etc.P

Ps: Unlocking the GPU makes a lot of difference.

Whats the timescale for those chips and when the first netbooks will be released with them? Have a deadline due to uni.

They are due to release over the next quarter, I suspect September might be cutting it close.

Optimus/ION 2 will only increase graphics performance remember, general performance will still be limited by the atom cpu

Im tempted to install Win7 on a freshly formatted HD but I read Win7 is not as good as WinXP for games. I suppose its worth a shot. I cant find how to overclock the ION GPU, there's no option in the nVidia Control Panel.

All I have running in the memory is Avast, HP Connect and the usual sound, bluetooth stuff

I dont see why its sluggish at times. they seem to perform well on youtube. You might need to do the bios hack?

GPU Status: good to go!
The GPU, being a nVidia chip, can be overclocked using nVidia System Tools, available on this page:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
This installs the System Tools into your nVidia control panel. You can then change the clocks for the GPU, and opt to have these settings applied at Windows startup. People have reported success overclocking in the range of 500-550 MHz

Ai but 1.8ghz is a good trade off between performance and battery life. Oh and if you do upgrade the RAM you will notice the build quality isnt that great, I had some mesh stuff poking out the back f mine which i pushed back in lol Also when putting the back panel back on, it looks like it kinda bends out at first so make sure you press the edges in until you hear a click.

I cant find how to unlock the ION LE to ION under WinXP
