** HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook @ £314.99 inc VAT **

Well it was suppose to be a cheapo machine for web browswing, Iplayer and word documents, not a gamer etc, its only because ive seen the OC/Hacking ability ive started demanding more for it.

How is it on the basic tasks then?

I'm having this huge debate in weither its worth upgrading or keeping as it is and throttling back my aspirations LOL.

I would upgrade to 3GB, the ION GPU takes up 256MB ram so your left with just 750MB for WinXP, its not enough really. Also when I upgraded to 3GB the ION memory doubled to 512MB :)

Id go for 3GB to future proof your netbook. And if you ever want to install Win7 you defo need 3GB. Just been reading a thread on myhpmini asking about WinXP or 7 and 90% response were for XP as it gives longer battery and better gaming performance. Looks like im sticking with XP :)

Well the arguement between XP and 7 and gaming performance has gone for awhile with no clear answer.

I'll prob float towards windows 7 and get 3gb but when it finally arrives today, ill see how it goes, if its responsive for the little things i want to do then maybe thats that.

However im tempted to go the whole hog with Bios Flash, OC and ION OC. lol

Mine just arrived, deffo needs more ram, strip the bloat out, maybe an ssd but plesantly surprised at build quality.

impressed with build quality

deffo needs more ram, not sluggish, bloat will need windows fully reinstalled

i just watched top gear in HD on Tv and seemed fine but i think overclock and LE unlocked is a MUST.

i cant get it to priotise an external monitor as the main monitor for some reason or close the lid and leave it running

The unlock LE only gives you DirectX10 so you will need to install Win7 to see any benefit in that. And what bloatware are you talking about? I dont know about your monitor issue, I will try it tonight

a lot of HP crap hanging about.

i've sorted the monitor problem.

Have orded more ram and done Ion hack

might wait to hack bios tho

All I did was change the FSB to 150, I haven't touched anything else. 1.8Ghz is fine for me. When you say slight improvement what did you use to measure this?

anyone know what settings in bios it takes to stop the cpu throttling?

Im getting annoyed of it bouncing from 1ghz to 2ghz all the time.

(Windows 7 settings does not make a difference)
