HP LP2475w, IPS 24" Official Thread! (Now Available from OcUK)

I must admit I am really liking this monitor, much more than the Hazro that I just sent back, there's much less "white glow" and also hardly any backlight bleed, also i the backlight is very uniform and good black levels, also I like the matte screen rather than the glossy one, i just think it needs proper calibration to get the colours looking nice.

Mine is going back.

The fault was the inconsistent colour temperature across the screen that some have noticed; the right hand side had a subtle pinky hue whilst the left hand side looked colder and slightly greeny/blue. Very subtle, but unacceptable and very off putting.

I have chosen a refund rather than replacement as I do not like the wide colour gamut. I don't have a colorimeter, and had intended to match the screen with my existing VP191s, which I new was well calibrated. Unfortunately, you cannot tone down the very saturated greens and reds with the OSD or with the NVidia Control Panel.

If you cannot manually adjust the screen to accurate levels without a colorimeter then it is not really fit for purpose.

Almost same problem i had.....seems wide gamut really sux.

Please read the entire thread, I've posted a decent calibrated profile and RGB values about 8 pages back IIRC.

hi philjohn thanks for that, i tried the rgb values but it seems very yellow on my display guess it must be personal preference.

Have you also installed the profile? I'd give your backlight a good 30-40 hours to properly bed in and try it again there; every panel is different though, which is why a calibrated profile will work on some and not for others - you'll need to shell out for a calibration device if that is the case and you cannot live with the stock colours.

I'd reccommend installing the HP Display Assistant and have a play around with the settings there as it gives you 3 more sliders for RGB black level which can be beneficial.

Yup.

I'm still by no means clear if it's a quality control issue (seems strangely consistent if so) and I got unlikely twice, or if they all do it and many people see it clearly but don't worry about it, or if they all do it and many people don't have good enough colour vision to make it a big deal.

I don't mean that disrespectfully, just baffled that so many people don't seem to find it a problem...

Thinking of going for third time lucky, but I'm not a serial monitor returner like some here, and I've already got grief from one supplier trying to tell me their T&Cs mean they don't have to comply with the DSR...

I'm still waiting on my new one... It seems more and more people have this contrast issue where one side of the screen is cooler and one side is warmer. I think that might be my problem instead of brightness.

I hope I don't get another panel with the same problem... or is it maybe like this on all panels? I sure hope not...

well I am pretty sure mine is a good panel, I don't see any colour difference, also the panel doesn't have any dead pixels or imperfections (as far as I can see) and no backlight bleed and minimal white glow. The only problem for me is getting a good calibration ( getting there now).

Since upgrading from my old dell 2007WFP (ips screen) and going through 4 different 24" monitors this is the first one that I feel is really a great display. But then again it should be at almost £500!!

Well I hope I get a panel like yours or philjohn's when I get my replacement. I just want a monitor with none of these problems. Aside from this issue I really love this monitor so if I can get one free of defects, then I'll be golden.

It seems they all display the temp difference, but I read in another thread that an LG.Display booth rep at an electronics show said it's normal and goes with extended usage, which seems to bear out as this replacement had the same problem but it's now fine.

Having been working with this monitor for a few weeks now I am pretty pleased with certain areas and disappointed by others.

For sheer size it has been a great asset for large format photoshop work and I find it very similar to the prints. As expected the viewing angles are very good and I have not noticed any of the colour temp differences across the screen that others have noticed.

However, there a number of down points for this monitor, the first being the over-saturation due to being wide gamut, this is most evident in movies and games.

The other issues I have not seen anyone else mention. The first is at startup and shutdown when the monitor will flash with a green striped screen after POSTING and before loading windows and just before shutting down. The second is after the monitor has gone to sleep, if I then want to bring back the desktop the monitor will then flicker on and off several times before retuning correctly to the desktop. I am wondering if anyone else has come across these issues?

Green Flash: Yep, very brief flash, I get that, but only sometimes. I've just tried switching the monitor off and shutting down the PC before switching the monitor off without incident in either case. So I've seen it but it is intermittent, probably just catching the monitor during mid-scan or some other 'awkward' moment.

On and Off several times: I do get 3 flashes during startup as the desktop is loading, I put this down to ATI drivers, LUT manager and ATI CCC. I've just tried bringing the monitor out of sleep and experienced one brief flash. Hum, I suspect drivers / video card initialisation ?

I'm certainly not worried about either :)

I've not found gaming to be a problem but that very much comes down to the games you play. Any uncorrected source using RGB = 255,0,0 for example is going to hit you with RED. I was going to use the following 2 clips to demonstrate the worst examples of games/videos I've so far found but strangely they don't look as bad as I remember

So yes, some games and some online clips can at times startle, maybe I'm just getting used to it. You mention movies, DVD's or online ? I don't use my PC for movie viewing so I'd appreciate any examples you can offer.

You know I'm starting to think my issue is slowly going away too... or maybe I'm just getting used to it. But either way I'll take the replacement to see the difference.

I have a Dell 2407WFP (Rev A04), would going to an HP LP2475w give a worthwhile viewing improvment, monitor used for "general" purposes, ie. films, Word Docs, internet, bit of gaming, video/photo editing etc?

I am really struggling to get this monitor calibrated properly, i don't have a calibrator, and have just been adjusting values that people have suggested but it always seems to have a red tinge to the screen, any ideas? i loaded the LUT manager up and used the file that Philjohn recommended but forgive my noobness i don't know what the LUT manager does? have i set this up wrong?
