HP Microserver+XPEnology

Is anyone using a SSD cache drive on XPenology? Prices are pretty good so I'm tempted to grab one if they make a difference.

This is probably a stupid question, but what's the main advantages of installing xpenology over plain over DSM on a HP Miscroserver?

gnoboot-alpha-10.5 is out soon. gnoBoot is so much easier to install then trantors version.

Currently running 4.3-3810 update 4, if I update to gnoboot version 5 will it wipe my data?

It shouldn't as the update should just pick up the disks you've made up under 4.3. HOWEVER, it's always recommended you back up any important data, just in case.

Just a thought. I hope you guys are making a new admin account with a new login\password then stop the old one?

Just installed the new gnoBoot 10.5 and all went well including the update 1.

You still have to download update 1 then run this script

sed 's/flashupdateDeb/flashupdateDeb1/' /[email protected]> /[email protected]
mv /[email protected] /[email protected]

Then go back and click update. The password is 6n0boot-AlpHaTen.5 for the gnoBoot file.
And don't forget to have a backup

Why? I changed the password. Surely that's enough?

Just done that myself (V5 gnoBoot) and worked great. Plus the update using the script as courtesy of deuse.

Only slight niggle is that I have a red number 1 on my control panels icon. It's as if something needs action, but I can't understand what.

It's great to be able to update remotely now as both servers are really awkward to access.

I had this on V5.4 when I installed the new version I picked at the start something like "clean install but keep my files" and now it's gone.
You can re-install it again and all should be ok. But you will have to set everything up again

A pain I know but he it's free

Hi all, I've recently flipped over from Trantor's dsm5 beta to Gnoboot's 10.4 alpha. I downloaded 10.5 last night as it adds HD HomeRun driver - but am unsure exact steps to upgrade - is it just a case of squirting the latest image onto thumbdrive and rebooting the MicroServer?

Also, successfully installed Update 2 using the usual SED script above :-)

. Anyone seen any changelog for it?! (I really should stop doing upgrades 'just because'!)

Have just stuck 10.5 on a usb stick and copied across the vender & edited menu_alpha.lst file to the new stick - rebooted and all has come up fine :-)

There is no need to copy anything across as gnoBoot picks up your mac addy

But when I first installed 10.4 there was no vender file present and so the serial number was blank which means not all the iOS apps work?

Just add the sn part in the menu_alpha.lst file.

Does anyone have a N54L running xpenology with the plex app transcoding 1080p and streaming over a neywork? Does it manage ok? Googling seems to give mixed responses.

Thinking of using the above setup to stream media to my receiver/tv via my Chromecast.
