Anyone getting a warning message from Security Advisor?

System Health : Danger : Security threats were found that need your attention.

Critical : DSM system files have been unintentionally modified.

I've only recently installed xpenology on my Gen8, but I'm sure it had been working fine for the first few days. Can't work out if this error first started happening after installing the latest update (update 5). Or, after installing Plex. Or, after connecting an external hard drive to copy some media files over. All of the above were done around about the same time - but the error was detected at around 130am (and I'm assuming that was just when an auto-scan kicked off).

Anyone else getting this error recently?

Thanks.

Anyone know how I might be able to clear it?

It doesn't mention which file has been modified.

are you using or got admin account running? If so disable it and setup a new account

I believe that I have created a login, which is effectively an 'admin' account, yes.

I'll have a read up on account management and creating a new account. Is there anything specific you think has caused this problem?

I'm all very new to DSM, so still trying to catch up with even basic usage.

I believe it was something to do with the admin account being able to be hacked from the "outside" I don't really know too much about it but I just created my own account and password and disabled the admin one.

Ok, in which case I believe that I've already created my own account.

But possibly just left the existing admin account active. I'll look into that, thanks.

Any input on how I can fix the problem now? I'm assuming that a clean re-install would be safest?

In which case, what's the best way to go about this?

I currently have a 6TB disk installed and obviously would rather not have to restore all this data from backups if I could avoid it.

Appreciate any input on best way to re-install and what that potentially means for any data already on the disk.

Apparently powerline adapters can affect drive spin ups.

I turned disk logging on, but can't find the logs - where are they?

My connection is a bit dodgy atm and I can't dtokez's link (might be my vpn).

ahh, I knew about that but thought they might be elsewhere since I don't have any hibernation log entries at all - seems my disks never sleep.

If you have active directory, ldap or other such things (I think there is a post on the synology forums) then the drives will never sleep unfortunately.

I turned off all my services and I do finally get some hibernation logs... the disks wake up about every 30 mins! But then I do have powerline adapters. Think it's best for me not to worry about it and just let them stay up all the time!

I worked out that here, with the price of power the 4 hdds I have running would only cost something like 8NZD per year per HDD.

I did a complete re-install and checked at each stage.

Update 5 install with no problems, but after installing Plex through the Package Centre, I get the same malware warning from Security Advisor.

It looks like Plex modifies something which Security Advisor doesn't like.

Strange as I have plex installed too and get no warnings

When you installed, I assume you did so from the Package Centre?

Can you remember if you just did an automatic install, or a manual install?

Do you still have Security Advisor set up to warn about modified system files? It is an option which can be disabled.
