HP Microserver+XPEnology

cheers guys. Ive been using the dlink ddns service on on my old nas box but wouldnt work in this either - will check out no-ip :)

is there a guide anywhere on how to set up? I thought I had it set up ok via no-ip, I can port forward to 80 which takes me to a page saying Web Station has been enabled. If I forward to port 5000 (Which I guess is the web interface) It doesn't work.

could someone please tell me what 'chmod' permissions looks like for 'homes' dir on synoloy/xpenology.

It has just started showing up in filestation and my permissions look like this:

drwxrwxrwx 5 root root 4096 Apr 3 23:43 homes

I think I may have modified it accidently whilst struggling with transmission setup.

It also seems transmission is *not* paying attention to the watch folder.

edit: remade the esxi vm and things 'working' better now, but...

if you're using a parity raid option then yes it will be slower as it has to write multiple bits at the same time, and it will be slowed down by the slowest drive in the system in that parity group... If you're not using parity then it is likely a network issue.

Hiya what would be the minimum SSD size to install expen??

So if you're not sure how DSM works, I'll explain. Xpenology uses a boot drive, somewhere around 15mb from a USB stick, this loads the boot system that can then load DSM. Proper synologies have this as a soldered device on the motherboard, we have to rely on an external device. Once booted, DSM is then installed to ALL HDDs attached as a new partition... Somewhere around 250mb as far as I could see. Once installed, you then have access to DSM.

The USB stick is required to boot the system but not required once booted and really doesn't contain any files apart from some drivers and boot information.

EDIT: as mentioned above, an SSD wont work as a boot device and it will just act as a normal HDD for the system.

raid0, 1x2tb wd red

What are the powerline adaptors rated at?

600mbs

I tried transferring a file from my nettop which is connected directly to the router - 5MB/s for ~300MB file. When transferring from my PC, transfer speed is about 15MB/s. My PC and microserver are in the same room, both pretty far from the router.

plus, I can't see media files of dlna. I have installed the media server app, and reindexed the media library.

Hi all.

Im currently running 5.1 5022 update 2 and want to upgrade to update 4... do I need to flash the latest boot image (XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.1-5022.3) to a USB drive before running the update via control panel so that when the server comes back up the boot image matches the now updated DSM?

Confirmation of the above if correct, or the accurate steps if I've got it wrong would be appreciated! :)

when I updated to update 4 (from main) I download the update and then manual install: browsed to the file and hit 'ok'. Didn't change any boot image.

I think it might be a while before we get 5.2, I would say they won't do it until it is out of beta.

Has anyone updated from 5.1 update 3 to update 4 cleanly? I have a Gen 8 microserver..
