*** HP Reverb G2 Owners Thread ***

Have you try this ? I'm finding the original face gasket to be very tight on the sides of my face and my eyes seem too far away from the lenses. If I remove it and hold the headset nearer my eyes, the amount of clear image across the lenses increases and so does the fov. I have no idea where to get one printed or what the cost might be ?

That’s a good price, it’s a pretty long print

It’s definitely much better than the stock interface for me in terms of distance, you can play around with different thickness padding to get the right result.

It’s quite thin walled though, not massively robust on an FDM printer as you are at the mercy of very little surface area between layers... it works but it doesn’t fill me with confidence. I would be tempted to order one from shapeways eventually if no third party comes out with a proper injection molded one... it would be a good candidate for their sintered or multi jet fusion nylon options.

Screw that ebay seller. Profiting from things posted for free on Thingverse is taking the p!ss, not to mention illegal. I get that they're providing a service for people who can't print their own, but it's still not on.

For what it's worth, I printed that one myself and wasn't all that impressed. While the top was definitely closer, from what I could tell the bottom was almost identical. The claim of your eyes being 15mm closer to the lenses seemed an exaggeration at best.

I downloaded the CAD file (link - requires registration) from HP and made my own based on that. The profile is exactly the same as the stock one, but it's 10mm closer all round. Using it with the foam from an OG Vive and really pleased with the results.

I wear either glasses or contacts, and while the stock one is fine with my glasses the modded one is closer enough to push them uncomfortably against the bridge of my nose. Great to have the option of contacts and wider FoV for longer sessions, but to easily swap face plates for use with glasses if necessary.

Considered sticking the nose piece from the Vive to it as well, however for DCS and FS I'm finding the gap pretty useful to peek through.

Fair point

As to the design, probably depends what is limiting you... for me with that interface and a spare foam pad from vrcover my eyelashes were touching the lens which is something I can’t do with the stock interface no matter how tight I make it.

How worried should we be about this. I checked and my details are in there :(

Not heard anything from HP or SA yet but no one is questioning the legitimacy.

On one hand I don't like the idea of scammers having my full name, address and bank details at all... OTOH it's not credit card info at least and the details are ones that may be out there already anyway

Not sure what to do really. Changing account details is a huge pita. I have had this account for 30 yearsIt's about time companies were held more accountable when failing to protect customer details

Strange, because I specifically noticed that my eyelashes weren't touching the lenses.

On a completely unrelated note, I fitted a damper to my MFG Crosswind pedals yesterday. Beforehand I did a quick google to see how others had done it and spotted a familiar looking username. Was that actually you?

Yuk, what a total mess. In theory the bank account details they think were hashed out, and were they visible they would potentially be up for misuse by Direct Debit. Especially when they have home address details as well. I guess it comes down to risk of the data being accessed in the time that it was available. The fact that there was a two day delay between them fixing the invoices is nothing short of complete muppetry. The lack of official communication on the matter isn't good enough either.

I personally got a little lucky, in that the mobile number I used for pre-order is no longer valid, and I used a secondary (spam box) mailbox too. I just can't remember which number I entered for the claim. I suppose someone having a copy of an official invoice is far from ideal in terms of identity theft.

yeah I believe I was the OG lol, I have the design and parts to do the conversion on thingiverse

re the interface probably just depends whether your cheekbones or forehead were the limiting factor.

Thanks for the info. I wear contacts so a smaller gap isn't an issue and I think it will improve the fov/edge to edge clarity. I guess I'll wait to see if any aftermarket gaskets are produced.

Latest bios on my Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro didn't fix anything. But any USB hub fixes the issues for me.

Thanks for the tip. I just tested one of these:

RSHTECH Powered USB Hub 7 Ports USB 3.0 Hub with 4 High Speed Data Transfer Ports + 3 Fast Charging Ports,36W 12V/3A Power Adapter, Individual On/Off Switches(A37-Black)

..and it got the G2 to work with some ports on the MB I/O of my MSI Pro Carbon X570. Seems to work with standard USB 3.0 ports but not the fancy 3.1 ports labeled "VR ready" on I/O plate.

I hope it does the same for the PC I just built with the Gigabyte MB.

I had a 3 hr session with elite. Worked ok but over the course of the 3 hrs had maybe 5 times where the audio fully cut out (both mic and ear pieces). The volume popped up before it cutting back in again. Each cut out lasted maybe 5 seconds.

Is that what other people are experiencing? I hope it can be fixed. The volume on my headset is.set to 90% .

My mobo is a 570 tomahawk. Headset is in the usb c built in as that is the one which worked.

Might get shot down for this, but some observations, going from a i7-9700k overclocked(possibly not the greatest overclock because it wouldnt hold the overclock speed in Cinebench although still better than base speed, I purchased the computer like that) to a i9-10900k overclocked(which does hold the overclock speed in Cinebench), both overclocked at 4.9.

I was initially very disappointed because the frame rates in DCS seemed no better, and if anything a little worse. But then I was looking at it, thinking, the image quality seems amazing compared to what it did on the i7-9700k, and I had changed no other settings.

So I have come to the conclusion, that WMR is doing supersampling without being able to tell it to or not, and that SteamVR supersampling doesnt need to always be 100%. Cause I hate reprojection, I had already dropped to 60Mhz in WMR, and was only running 80%SS in SteamVR on the i7-9700k, which gave me a solid 60fps the majority of the time with no reprojection unless it dropped below that. I have now dropped to 70%SS in SteamVR on the i9-10900k, same solid 60fps, and if anything slightly better image quality than I had on the i7-9700k.

This is running a RTX 3090

DCS is very much mainthread bound on the CPU front (Vulcan update and better multi threading coming hopefully Q3 this year) so the extra cores and threads of the 10900K do buttkiss for you and the single thread performance difference between 9XXX and 10xxx is negligible. I wouldn’t expect to see any difference.

But then I was looking at it, thinking, the image quality seems amazing compared to what it did on the i7-9700k, and I had changed no other settings.

Only if you have selected in the WMR settings to allow it... if you select best quality then it won’t intervene, if you select performance then it will.

Even on best quality it appears its still doing supersampling.

I do seem to have better image quality on DCS, however that has come about with the new CPU. Hopefully the DCS improvements coming later this year will be able to take more advantage of the CPU.

Just tried Pavlov with my son, him on the Quest2 and me on the G2

First time I've played anything non-sim and what a disaster it is. Maximum of 5 minutes before the world starts spinning and my hands end up miles from my body lol. Not a hope of actually trying to play the game. Contrast with the Quest2 which shows no issues at all, only problem with tracking appears to be when it's pitch black. Obviously it's something I can improve by looking into the lighting, but I do really question whether it can be acceptable for this sort of thing now.

'Best' I could do was point a lamp from behind me at the ceiling for some ambient light, but whilst all holds up fine when I'm sitting still in a car, trying to play on my feet and moving around is an absolute no no, until I sort something out.

Played Pavlov for a fun 30 minutes on Saturday on that daft bridge map, no issues with the tracking. Middle of the afternoon with the curtains open though, natural light. The Index is fine in whatever, but the HP sure likes the lights turned on.

Problem with have in this room is the light is directly above where I stand, sends the tracking crazy. Considering buying a red LED bulb, someone on Reddit was saying that helped a lot..

Having spent some time on my lunch today, good news is Pavlov is absolutely fine in good daylight. Really good game too, although don't think I managed to get a single shot in on my son whilst he regularly knifed me :)

So now I guess I'm looking at improving the lighting in this room. Will try a red bulb before all else I think, based on this reddit thread. Don't suppose anyone else has tried anything similar?

What's the state of ordering for the G2? Are people still waiting for headsets from last year? I haven't managed to bag a GPU yet but also need to get a G2 sorted!
